Local Goodies Skagit Style
I was up working in the Mount Vernon area yesterday.I remembered last year about this time their local berries were good to go.Yesterday I bought wonderful strawberries, large raspberries and some very aromatic and juicy Tayberries. So last night I put up 8 pints of raspberry and 6 pints of Tayberry jam.Ifin you enjoy Berries like I do its worth the drive up to Mount Vernon to get some.
I hate to be to repetitive but lets keep our local farmers fed and their kids clothed.BUY WA STATE PRODUCTS!!!!
P.S. Berries are very healthy.Full of vitamins and Anti-Oxidants.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Good lookn out racfish. Your right about buying WA goods. Support our local growers. Those berries must be killer. I love buying local produce. I so regret not picking up some while coming back from Eastern Wa this weekend. But we were trying to make a birthday party.
What is a Tayberry BTW? Never heard of it.

Ah yes...
I live close enough I've already experiences exactly what you're talking about.
I've got strawberry and raspberry jam all made up from about a week ago.
I know several east-siders that make a special trip over here every year for the berries. It's actually a joke, since they've never made it it over for the tulip festival. At least they have their priorities right!
Enjoy em!

A tayberry I believe is kin to the Loganberry. Its a deep red almost burgundy elongated loganberry. Its not real sweet but not tart like a blackberry.Id describe them as a good flavored(aromatic) berry.Great in jams and jellies.I've made to this date over 30 pints of various jams and jellies so far. This year I'm making alot of sugar free using Splenda jams and jellies.
