I was wondering if anyone out there would like to make some money and take a look at my 4hp Johnson motor. Its real clean, but for some reason, it wont ramp up all the way. Literally, I can go faster with a trolling motor.
You can call me at 425.345.1507 for the details if you're interested. Any help would be great. I got banks lake in may, and would love to have this resolved by then. I'm up in everett, but could deliver the engine if need be.

By ramp up, if you mean go to full rpm then the first things to look at are the throttle, will it open the carb all the way. Are there any filters plugged, many have pumper carbs with internal filters/screens and next would spark advance dependeing on the age. Just straight up small engine trouble shooting. Let us know what you find.

You know, I have looked it over and cant seem to find anything wrong. But I never took anything apart on it yet, just visual inspection.
What did the throttle cable cost you? Could I get one used and will it work good?

that cable together with install cost me 150 bucks - turned around and sold the motor 400
from what the repair place told me was that it was difficult, probably to justify an hour’s labor (100/hr)
if you could get the cable used it should work, the faulty cable had some plastic thingi broke at the motor end… hope this helps

If it's a 2 stroke johnson stop wasting your time and and pull the pumper carb. $ to donughts the screens in the pumper carb are clogged. Very common if the motor was not run dry after the last use.

You know of any links to sites where they might demonstrate this or show that part on a diagram. I do some mechanic work, but never on outboards.
