Northwest Fishing Reports

I have been thinking of picking up a fishing Kayak. Problem is that I have never been in a Kayak or even a Canoe before. I was hoping to hear the thoughts of anyone with experience fishing from one. Are they stable when casting. I see some utilize steering systems. Some even use pedal type propulsion for hands free movement on the water with the options of installing a sail even.

As it is now, I have a 9' pontoon "kick boat" which I bought mainly for drifting rivers. On the lake it is too slow for getting from point A to B. With a tail wind, your moving at a walking pace at best. Also, when ether moving via flippers or oars, it is designed to go backwards. So you often need to look behind you to avoid any obsticles

I want something that I can get on the water without the need of a a trailer and boat launch.

I have fishe out of canoes many time's. If you dont stand and cast with your body you will be fine, the best way to fish from them howwever is to troll, try a spinner worm or flatfish in lakes, either one is dynamite. The beauty about a canoe or kayak is that you can moveit very slowly whittch is very producctive for trout. and they dont spook fish uless you get extreamly close to them. The are very manuverable and ina canoe you can fish up to two rods at a time, Howwever it is beter to put in a rod holder and us long fly rods with a spinning reel on them so you can stick your line far out to the side. If you bring a small net that can barley fit in the boat you can easily land large fish since there is nowhere to snag on the kaykak's/canoe's you can use 2# and have a nice fisht with large cutthroat and still land them. But the best part abut about a Kayak/Canoe is that you get off your ass and get some excersie and you can never run out of gas or batterie and they are able to travle through even thick lilly pad's in very weedy lakes.
