First and foremost, I have to give credit to panfisher for being the first to post what I am about to discuss. I thought this amazing catch deserved its own seperate post. There was a 4-6 foot sturgeon caught in rotary lake in Yakima. For those of you unfamilier with rotary lake, as panfisher points out, it is a very small lake -- A lake where you would never guess a sturgeon would be lurking. Here is the article that was in the news paper. It's pretty interesting and exciting, so it is worth the read. http://www.yakimaherald.com/page/dis/9455654604682
As the paper points out, this is kind of a freak occurance, and the fish was most likely dumped there years ago.

Even more interesting, is the fact that a 30 pound catfish had been pulled out of this small lake just the day before. Additionally, for anglers who want a real challenge, that sturgeon was released back into the pond. It is still out there, and in fact, this lake is only about two miles from my home... Uh oh, this could become an obsession. I guess you never know where you will catch a sturgeon.

Joe (in search of the big sturgeon of rotary lake -- of course I'll release her if I ever catch her)

Thats crazy that not only 1 huge fish came from a pond that size but 2! Either way it is defiantly worth putting a line in that lake. Who knows there could be a couple more in there. I dont know about this lake, so it might not even be possible for a lake like that to support any more big fish like that. But the one is still in there and that would be enough to wet a line there. Was the catfish kept or released? I just kind of figured that he was kept.

WOW! Great story Joe. Thanks for sharing. And good luck with your hunting that beast down.
Can you imagine the look on that guys face when he first saw it. Never seeing a sturgeon before and here he was faced with a prehistoric dinasaur looking fish on the end of his line. I can't imagine what was going through his mind. :cyclops:
I hope they put that cat back. It would be worthless to eat.
