Carp fishing

Hi everyone, I heard for many years that there is alot of carps in green lake. I haven't caught a carp before in my life, but I've always wanted to. Just for fun, I heard they fight pretty good. Does anyone know what kind of bait is best for carp fishing? Any kind of tips and hints will be great! Looking at trying it sometime this week.

Night crawlers in the shallows I know works if you can sight fish for them. Linders Edge has an episode on Versus - Comcast on demand right now and they are using a crawler rig also and fishing off the bottom.

My friend just caught one out of lake wa, we were casting nightcrawlers and just play the waitin game. I've heard bread and corn works too.

The number one thing that I have seen land carp is a 1/84 oz white or yellow/white mini micro crappie jig, on 4lb test line. I am not quite sure if the carp acctually go for the jig, or if they just suck up the tiny jig while swimming around. Very fun fight on an ultra light. The 2nd bait I have seen land the most carp is a worm on the bottom. The 3rd is well, a plug hooked in the tail or fin of the carp when trolling in the shallows for walleye, but that wont help you too much. If you know how to fly fish, I know that carp on the fly is becoming a big sport

Oh yeah I almost forgot, if you havnt heard of boilies, google it. It is supposed to be the number 1 bait for carp. Thats all they use in Europe. Europe is HUGE on carp

I used to get them on a high quality wheat bread. I also used a 2 hook set up when fishing with the bread (also I used to add oat meal to the bread balls)and on the other hook was a night crawler....

They sometimes gather around the west side of the lake (around the doc where the rowers launch) at dusk. If you watch, you can see them finning the surface around there. They are very spooky, don't go out onto the dock, stay on shore and cast out to them and just wait for your line to start moving (take a chair, headlamp, umbrella and a book). I've caught em there with just the cheapest white bread I could find at the store mashed around a hook and bottom fished. Make sure you either open your bail, set your drag really loose, or tether your pole, because when they take it, they have been known to take poles with em. Good Luck!

We use to make a flour/water dough till you can for sticky balls of goop that stays on a hook. then squeeze in so fish scents and cast it out and wait.They are fun to hook up and catch.Lots of lunging and pulling.The roe is the best part in my opinion.

my dad used to fish for crucian carp out in korea and carp in Oklahoma and he used to make some funkie bait.

It was wheat flour? corn mill? one of those powders...and he'd put in a little water, egg, and put in a ton of peanut butter and mix it all together until it became a thick dough. He moved back to Korea a couple years ago and he continues to do this and finds great success in Korea catching crucian carp.

I've had most success catching carp with corn. The way you wanna setup your line is a little different though. Weight on bottom, then two feet above weight make a leader from 6 inches to 1 foot. Keep your line tight and just wait, comes down to making sure the corn is not on the bottom of the lake but floating around so the carp can find it easy.
