I'm looking to buy a rod that breaks down to 3-5 pieces so I can pack it in the backpack on the camping trip....
Anyone know where I could find one? Going to head out to Joes and some other stores on Monday, but am wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

You might try looking at Cabelas. They have an Eagle Claw Trailmaster III rod that looks pretty good for hiking. Here's the link:

I have one of those combos that I keep in my truck while I travel on business. One never knows when you need to pull over and clear your head before you continue on.
Good little combos for the price.

Do not buy any Cabelas brand rods they suck. The eagle claw is a good way to go. Sportsmans, or what was sportsmans has some good stuff. The telescoping rods are good, cheap and are small. I would get a telescoper at sportco or sportsmans.

I handled a spinmatic at Joes the other day (non pack version). It did seem like a good UL rod. If I were to go and get a pack rod today I'd consider getting it.
Thanks

How so?
I've been looking at rods, and several of the Cabela's brand rods have gotten a number of good reviews. Of course the reviews were hosted on the Cabela's website, so perhaps the reviews need to be taken w/ a grain of salt. And, I must admit, I have't yet had a chance to go down to Cabela's and try them hands-on.
Are the reviews a case of people being satisfied with "OK"? Or is something else going on?

Hey, Eagle claw makes a great spincast reversible fly rod that breaks down to a 4 piece. I was lucky enough to find one 20 some years ago with an aluminum tube I took on the cascade trail several times. Worked great. Packed into a 2 ft. tube. Check Eagle claw web site. Don't know if they still make them with the lumnum toob!!!!! Happy Trails
