Northwest Fishing Reports

I volunteer for a special needs non profit group (Friendship Adventures). I want to organize a fishing derby next year at a lake. Right now Blackmans Lake is on my radar, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone else has any recommendations? I need somewhere that is ADA and has picnic facilities, in King County or not far from the Seattle area. Thanks for any tips!

I dont have any specific recommendations for you - I dont fish King county much and then only from a boat.

I would suggest you contact the state parks people. Id bet they have someone who would be willing to work with you to locate a good spot.

Also, a call to WDFW might be a good idea. You might be able to get waivers on licensing or special rules allowances for the participants.

Are you thinking boat fishing, dock fishing, or shore fishing?

Trout, or anything that swims?

Lake Meridian has a great fishing dock, long U shaped, close to pads, and over deeper water. It also has a high multi-rail railing around the dock sides, which could be a problem with a wheelchair bound person, or short person, you'll have to go look, or ask Kent City Hall for info to their web site for pictures. Looks to be wheelchair safe. Looks to be lots of parking, rest rooms, and a snack bar. I have no idea when the stuff there opens. Call Kent City Hall/Parks dept.

Meridian also has lots of shore fishing at the park.

Definitely talk to WDFW.

I cant find them now, but they sent out notices earlier this year about special events just like yours that had special rules and blocked out dates, so I know they do this sort of stuff fairly often.
