I would love to offer you some help, but it's not clear from your post what it is you are asking for help with. You said you cannot "Get on the" ? Can you be more specific?

Id say if you have a small inflateable the rivers and the salt are not a good place to be. Try the lakes in your area. Kapowsin,Tanwax,Spanaway. Those are just 3 of many lakes. Good luck, wear a pfd and enjoy.

Hey "Dontknow",
Add me to the list of people interested in helping, but as stated by someone else, I think a typo made it unclear what you were seeking help with. Let us know and I'm sure someone will be able to make things a little easier.
Dave

Good call Gkaf. American is a good lake. If you go towards Yelm you might want to try Mineral Lake or Alder Lake too. Perhaps Ohop.

DontKnow:
I'm up in north Kitsap, fish local lakes in an inflatable quite regularly and was able to get out just this last Saturday (2x13-14" rainbows). If you don't mind me asking, How old is your kid? Even though we waited until it was sunny, after the rain, it was quite cold. So you don't turn her off fishing, you may want to wait until spring. If you want to meet up shortly after most lakes open (late April), I can ALMOST guarantee a limit of rainbows within about 30 minutes from here.

You should drive with your Daughter through Pierce and Thurston county checking out lakes for next spring. Look now while there arent tons of boats out. Earlier I mention Mineral Lake. It has Rainbows,German Browns for sure I know. I know they got Crawdads too. Its a very peacefull serene lake to fish. I try to hit it yearly. Parking is good for launching or hand carry boats. The scenery up there is beautiful. Im thinking of lakes where you can take a small toon and enjoy the day. Good luck. Look in the lake index by county on this site. Its chuck full of useful info.

Honestly, you're best bet will be on the rivers until April. Fish by the hatcheries, there is usually lots of bank access. Bobber fish with a jig, your little one should be able to do that easily, I've taught some 6 year olds and got them on the fish on their first few casts that way. Stay safe though! There are a few good rivers for that especially friendly to little ones, some spots on the green, the skookumchuck and the tilton for one. And always fun to plunk at the barrier dam on the cowlitz and have a picnic.

Long ways, if you're in Sammamish, best bets would be Beaver and when it's open Pine. If you're in to a little driving Stacie just added some stocking info in the Time for Trout thread http://www.washingtonlakes.com/forum/vi ... =2&t=16990

And here too. http://www.washingtonlakes.com/forum/vi ... 17&t=16991

Not sure if I like giving advice to a Buckeye, but at least you asked nicely!

There aren't any known pike fisheries on the west side of Washington. There are tiger muskies in a few waters. Lake Tapps here locally, but I believe it drains in the winter time to control the weed growth.

Lake fishing sucks here in the winter, unless you have a large enough boat to troll for cutts/rainbows. You can try fishing at Sammamish for some perch, but they'll be deep. Probably like what Bodo said, Beaver might be your best option, local where you work, small enough to take your dingy, they have trout there.

I'm from the midwest as well, first winter was brutal for me, the next winter I picked up winter steelhead fishing, it's a blast, but there's a learning curve and probably not suitable for an eight year old, need a lot of patience in cold crappy weather.

Good luck, if you can hold out for the winter, spring and summer lake fishing is pretty fun here. Washington has an incredible trout planting program here in early spring. Lots of these smaller lakes will get saturated with little hatchery trout, easy pickings for the kids.

Need to adapt to the waters here, plenty of good fishing, just need to put your time out in the waters. Can't say too much about hunting, not a hunter, but what I noticed the venison population doesn't compare to the midwest.

Check out the latest Beaver lake Report.

Lots of lakes south and north of Tacoma. Look at a map, choose a lake or 3, check in the regs for those lakes to see what special regs apply, check the general regs --- choose a lake or 2 - go fishing. Some lakes were listed in the other thread awhile ago.

He can't choose a lake around Sammamish/Issaquah as then he couldn't drive home to Tacoma to get his daughter, then back to Issaquah area. Too much driving in rush hour time frame. So he needs Tacoma area lakes.
