Curing eggs for bait using just kitchen items???

I've been trying to find a way to cure Coho eggs w/out using any sporting goods products or borax. Does anyone have a manner which involves just kitchen items like maybe salt, sugar, etc? A long time ago, Gramps would just use stuff out of his kitchen for curing eggs for bait, but he is long-ago dead, so I cant ask him and google hasn't been productive for once.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Borax used to be a common household item. With today's all-in-one detergents borax doesn't have much of a place anymore. Anyhow, you can use just sugar and salt to cure them, but you would probably want to go with making roe sacks as the borax step helps toughen the skein, so it'll stay on your egg loop.
Check out this article. Maybe it'll help. You can always play around and see what you come up with.
Good luck.

read a book by Scott Haugen once, "Egg Cures For Salmon & Steelhead". As I remember it included some consisting of such things as sugar, borax, kool-aid, etc. That`s where i`d suggest starting.

Thx guys! Appreciate the suggestions. good article too. can't remember where i was when ending up where a borax mine was.... i did read one article from a hatchery test saying how the bit of borax seemed to deter in a tank-test environment. KoolAid, good idea. prob better than dye/coloring drops.
