Northwest Fishing Reports

The other day while getting ready to hit the water at Beaver I was checking out their cartoony little sign about the Beaver Lake Chain watershed and it got me wondering... Can we fish the second lake to the North? On the map (at the boat launch) it looks to be connected by a "large" stream, is it big enough for my tiny Livingston to pass or portage? The topo says it is pretty deep at the center with a steep drop-off; sounds like a pretty good spot to hit up and put a line down. Anyone here tried it?

i know beaver lakes is composed of 3 lakes, the largest one having a boat launch, the other 2 are at opposite ends. both are accessable with car toppers from the main lake.

Yes, you could work your way into both lakes. Both hold good bass and some suprisingly good trout populations from what I've heard. The smaller/shallower one near the park is accessible through the park but tough to find an opening to plunk a boat into the water, and the biggger deeper lake doesn't have access either if I can remember.

The smaller and shallower lake might be tough to get to when the water is low like it should be now, but when it's up higher it's navigable, and the bigger lake is tough to get to because of the mass amounts of lilies blocking your entrance thru the channel, so you might need to bring oars instead of using your minn kota...That channel SHOULD be deep enough but don't hold me to it...

Looks like I've got a mission... As for the oars, my wife won't let me go out there without 'em since she knows I always seem to get myself into some kind of trouble.

Mission Accomplished! I managed to navigate the shallow creek (avg. depth ~1ft) in my boat and make it into the deeper lake. It is a bit of a chore to get there, but well worth it for the solitude.

I too managed to get through that shallow channel in a 14' alum. the smaller lake was nice and quiet. The guy from this list who I fished with with would have probably won the current (catch 5 species contest) I think that night he caught 5 diff. species, I'd never seen that before, it was kind of weird. We did well right where you come into the smaller lake, where the were mass lillies.

I'll probably limit the amount I go back there, and use it more as an escape.

Sounds fun. I'm gonna check it out this weekend. I've never been to the North side of Beaver, the 3-4 lb'er's have kept me to the South. Sounds like I need to stretch out before I hit the water next time and keep on rowing.

Until last weekend I had never really ventured past halfway to the north. I figured I give the family's that live on the water where I've been fishing a weekend lunch & dinner w/o seeing me outside their docks. I feel like I need to leave something on their dock during the holidays, since they spent all that money providing me great bass havens. Redneck Claus...

Check out the new downed tree in the second cove north on the boat launch side. Its been down about a week in a half... time enough for territory to be established.

BTW, if you go to the Video Section Beaver lake is on there and I have video of the smaller side lake in it. As reported, you can get through the channel but it is tight.

When I took my girlfriend out just after the spawn we navigated our way back to the second biggest/northern lake just fine. I hadn't been back there for a few years, but decided to go after not much action in the main lake. It is very easy to navigate this channel as long as you duck under a few low branches and keep your electric motor just below the surface. We navigated the channel all the way through in my Basshound 10.2 with a 50 lb. thrust Minn Kota just fine. Don't worry and just go for it. This northern lake has some potential. You can get to it just fine in your Livingston.

We made both channels in a 14' Harborcraft with a Minn Kota. South Lake is very good for bass, but the North Lake has the best fishing of any part of Beaver Lake. The bass fishing is good, and believe it or not the North Lake is deeper than Big Beaver. The trout winter over very well there since they are not exploited nearly as much.

I'm confused on where the heck the North and South lakes are. I drove around there a couple times this morning THINKING there should be a bridge of some sort across Beaver Lake Rd. but nothing. Where the heck is this channel you all speak of??? Is it only accessable from the main lake or can I walk in off the road?

You need a boat to even see them.

The smaller of the three lakes (south) is accessible via the park and from the lake via a stream. The north lake touches the edge of the Hazel Wolf and eagle preserve. If you look at the lakes via google earth you can see the main and north lake clearly. To see how the three lakes are layed out with respect to roadways or anything else- check out the Sammamish city website and view the various maps available.

UPDATE: The southernmost lake in the Beaver Lakes chain is too shallow and overgrown at this time to really be considered for fishing. I worked my way through the whole lake this afternoon- it is nearly solid weeds with an average depth of 18". Looks like we'll have to wait for spring...
