Northwest Fishing Reports

So, my daughter has decided that she would like to try fishing. I haven't fished for about 30 years, and never in WA. Anyway, I would like some advice/suggestions on local lakes with good shore fishing/pier access, since we don't have a boat. The lake guides seem to be a bit sparse on this info.

We are in north Seattle, so would likely head up into Snohomish Co. or East King Co.

I asked the same question back in June and got no replies. My suggestion is t o try Cottage Lake in Woodinville or Flowing lake in Monroe. Both have fishing docks which makes fishing with kids a little more manageable.

yep, flowing lake can be good. there is a 'free' dock on the far end or you can pay to go into the park and fish from that dock. you could try blackman's lake in snohomish (hit or miss), there are a few docks there also. there's always gissberg ponds along the west side of I-5 near smokey point in snohomish co. there's 2 lakes to fish. the one on the north end is for kids only and you can fish the shoreline all the way around the lakes. great for the kids!

i'm putting a thumbs up for greenlake because you can fish from shore all around, just chuck your powerbait and hang out. Or if you can manage some evening fishing, a worm under bobber is certain to get some small bass. Bitter Lake is also a good choice. Both of these lakes do well from 5pm to 10pm from shore.

Finally Log Boom Park is a fun choice too, you need to use worms and something called a drop shot rig to keep your bait 1ft off the bottom.

Have fun and enjoy! next spring in april and may is the best trout time for stocked trout.

If you are talking about simple shore fishing, and the 9/ 10 year old girls just want to pull something up. I would maybe consider some of the little urban lakes in Bellevue, such as Phantom, or Larsen. More likely phantom. Beaver lake to me is far from guaranteed fish on the shore. Somebody can chime in on Pine lake dock fishing if they like. But those little oddball lakes like phantom don't get the pressure of pine and beaver. Doesn't matter what they catch, just fish on the line.

If you are looking in Snohomish county, try Martha lake on 164th, there is a dock.
I would 2nd Picka's mention of Log Boom park, on the very N. end of lake WA. for the evening fishing. Also can't say enough about green lake. Silver lake In S. Everett has a couple docks. If you are talking about trout fishing in these small urban lakes, it is probably the worst time of year in my opinion. The water is at it's warmest. These lakes are shallow. The panfish bite can be OK, as well obviously as the bass fishing.
You might try some of the parks with docks on Lake WA. Deeper water, etc. Think of Waverly Park in the Juanita area. Very nice dock with benches, etc. Avoid the middle of the day sunshine on the water. Think about 7:00 til dark. Have fun.
