I was reading in the regulations that you are allowed to use three hooks. Does anyone here fish with 3 hooks if so how would you describe yoursetup? I tied up 3 of them using a palamor knot and it looks like it would work.. but I was hoping for some input.

double drop shot with a jig and pig on the bottom lol. seriously i have never done this but think how it would increase your chances. imagine getting three fish on at once. that would be crazy.

I haven't done this technic here yet but in the south my bud and i would tie a hardbody jerk bait(lucky craft) and than tie on a 2 ' leader too the back and attach a soft body fluke(zoom) , we both have got doubles before ... catching the fish its that hard its just landing them was the trick ..this wasnt allow in torneys ...BBD :king:

i"ll use a combo of three differnt colored jigs and or flies when i fish for panfish such as bluegill, crappie and trout. usually they'll perfer one of the colors more than the rest so i'll switch to that color and just use one or two to be better able tocontrol the presentation if they fish are finicky. this also works well when you're boat fish'n and want to find the depth the fish are at, can't use bait on these hooks though.

I've used a three hook set-up in saltwater before for rockfish, but not in fresh. However, I have seen and used a two hook setup for dropshotting (jig on the bottom for weight and regular hook further up the line). It seemed to do okay. No double hook-ups though.

I only use three hooks while ice fishing. I'll tie in three snelled hooks into my main line at about 18" intervals, then place a small bell sinker at the bottom, about 18" below the bottom hook. There's no casting involved so the risk of problems is minimal and I can cover a lot of water. In shallower water, 10 feet and under, I'll only use two hooks. I've noticed that a lot of folks use a similar rig while shore fishing.

While fly fishing I would never consider three flies....would be a major cause of "bugger-ups" while casting. I used to use a smaller "trailer" pattern behind a bugger or leech. But this can be problematic also.....many times I've foul hooked a trout with the trailer pattern after having missed him with the lead pattern. So, I avoid this like the plague and keep to a single pattern.

Sounds like you need to work on your casting;) When fly fishing I ALWAYS fish 2 bugs and sometimes 3. As others have stated the dropshot jig set up can be very effective. Three hooks on a spin rod should be no problem as long as local regs allow.

A newbie question.. and i can't find my reg book my wife went on a cleaning rampage and I think I'll have to pick another one up. Do treble hooks count as 1 hook or 3?

selective gear rules state; only unsented artificial flies or lures with one single-point, barbless hook are allowed. up to a total of three artificial flies or lures containing single point, barbless hooks may be used. bait is prohited. this is how i've always fished this set up (no bait). but under the freshwater rules it says; hook and line angling only. barbed or barbless hooks may be used, and a hook may be single-point, double, or treble, but not more than one line with up to three hooks per angler may be used. i need to read these regs, more thoughly because i thought you could only use single hooks, barbed or not with no bait, just learnded sumthun. <')//<

Thanks panfisher. :)

I tried out a 3 hook setup and it went great the first four casts.. didn't land any fish but got a few bites. I got tangled up though.. and so took it off and put something else on because I didn't want to waste precious fishing time untangling heh. I'm going to create several rigs with 3 hooks on them next time so if they get tangled I can just switch out and untangle them when I get home.
