Are axotols considered live bait or are they lumped in with worms regarding their use?

I guess my dad and I are most likely going to head to potholes for a few days fishing for walleye next weekend, I'll try and get him out at night to try and catfish and report back to see how it was.

My brother-in-law caught a 1.5lb cat at potholes on a fotball jig with a curly tail grub. Go figure.
