Looking for any recent info on north side access at Fish lake (Chelan cnty)

Post by duckslayer » Wed Jun 20, 2007 5:34 pm

I was just wondering if anyone might have any recent information on the north side of the lake.I checked the reports section and apparently things have changed up there yet again. So I understand there has been a rather lame attempt to put in a launch and parking area, and the gate has moved. The thing I would really like to clarify is the extent of destruction to the old campsites beyond the gate. The last time I was up there was in 06 before the gate had been moved.I just got a big garden wagon and hauled my gear past the gate and camped anyway. After all this was by all accounts I've heard, a situation of stolen public property so never mind the gate. Here is what I was told about this whole situation with our public access to this area being taken away from us.I talked to the rangers that patrolled the area the weekend before they put the last gate in, and was told that this was all started by the guy who ran cascade hideaway at the time.Apparently, the first gate was put in on his side, by him, in response to a dispute he had started with the forest service over the FS road that ran through his resort not being a legal easment. The forest service was originally going to leave the other side open to we the people, but some one, hmmmm? called the EPA in on the public side, and yes, ladies and gentlemen, we got screwed.I have to admit that people are pigs, and the trash was a problem. But the bottom line is that the other gate was put in because the forest service did not, would not, or could not, provide funds to have toilets enstalled. The simple solution for the trash would have been to have people register their sites with their vehicles ect and start ticketing for trashed sites. The area was patrolled regularly already.Anyway if anyone has any recent reports as to the state of things up there currently I would appreciate the info, and I would also love to hear other peoples opinions stories on what happened with this peice of property.

I was over there late last September - 1st time I had ever been to Fish Lake so I don't know any of the background stories but I did drive around to the north side of the lake to launch my canoe. The description in the report section was pretty accurate at that time, except they did put in pit toilets in the parking lot. I am thinking to run over there tomorrow for a daytrip, if I do I will post my findings (and hopefully my catch!)

Ran over to the north side of Fish Lake as planned on Friday - looked the same as last time I was there. The "end" of the road has turnaround, parking for 8-10 vehicles, pit toilets, giant boulders keeping anybody from launching anything but cartoppers. There is a gate at the west end of the parking lot, so it looks like the road does (or at least used to go) further west, but not anymore. On the way in there looks to be campsites and saw on camp set up, but did not I didn't go down the closed road, so I have no idea what is off that way. As far as fishing - too windy, didn't even get a line in the water.
