Fishing Beginner

Post by smafull1 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 10:07 am

I grew up in Florida and went fishing a couple times with my grandfather growing up. Just moved to Seattle and would really like to start fishing.

Is there anywhere locally in the Bellevue/Redmond area where I can take some beginner fishing courses?

Thanks

welcome to the pacific northwest. its a little colder and wetter up here but we are used to it.

raing gear might be needed depending apon when you fish.

as for courses i am not sure, the best way to learn is to do. most of the stuff i learned came from right here on this site. just surf around and ask plenty of questions.

WELCOME ABOARD!! YOU WILL FIND ALOT OF USEFUL INFO ON THIS SITE. I HAVE GAINED MORE KNOWLEDGE IN 8 MONTHS OF THIS SITE, THEN THE PREVIOUS 5 YEARS OF FISHING BY MYSELF. ALOT OF GREAT ANGLERS. IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT ON LAKE WASHINGTON, SHOOT ME A PM. IVE HIT IT MAYBE 12 TIMES, AND, AM STILL LEARNING IT, BUT, I HAVE A BOAT, AND, CAN PASS ON WHAT ALOT OF VETERAN LAKE WASHINGTON ANGLERS HAVE GIVEN ME. IVE BEEN OUT WITH 9 GUYS FROM THIS SITE, AND, HAVE NOT MET A BAD APPLE YET. PASSIONATE APPLES YES (ABOUT OUR FISHERIES), BUT, NO BAD APPLES. SO, JUST START OUT POPPING QUESTIONS, AND, TAKE SOME NOTES, BECAUSE THE ANSWERS WILL COME. GOOD LUCK!!

Near Redmond, check out Beaver Lake and Pine Lake. Beaver is year round but Pine is closed right now. Are you interested in trout fishing or bass fishing or what? It's the slowest time of year right now for fishing. But as spring comes the trout, bass and panfish will become more active, you'll learn the most then. I'd start out with panfish, just find a patch of lily pads and drop a worm out there under a bobber. Then move on to trout or bass as you get better.
