Typically the fish and game people do not release info until last minute and sometimes the day after that [unsure]

Why would you need a report? All the lakes are within about a 30 mile circle. Just pick a lake and go. I like to stay away from Caliche(s) as I've caught some nasty skin rashes in the past but other than that, pick a lake and hit it. I might see ya over there. Always a favorite for me, sort of a tradition. Might take the tube and the fly rod. I don't like to eat them but it sure is fun to see the reactions when I release them. I never use bait.

Good Luck!!!

Good place to do that. You probably want to hit Burk and Quincy, just camp between them and you have your choice. Be sure to follow the rules very carefully, the Sheriff likes to spend a few day of writing tickets. Usually camping and hanging out violations. Don't think I'll camp but I may find a warm and dry place to crash.

If you fish the banks you'll be fine, you can see the schools circling the lake just start casting when they come, they're never in the middle. A fly made of a little "PB green/chartruse" yarn and you're set for fun for the whole day. Little leachish streamers should work too. The lakes are only about 25' at the deepest.

is it not legal to camp there? i see people doing it all the time. Or are they just looking for people fishing all day and going over thier limits, any idea what they are ticketing people for?

Oh yeah, it's fine to camp there. It's just not alright to ride dirt bikes, drink in the parking lot, even if you are in your tent. Hit your wife or gf. Be a bother to others. It's sort of a party so if you're looking for solitude walk in and find a spot by Dusty.

The lakes in the Moses Lake area are still froze over. Burke is a tad bit lower in elevation so it's probably froze over or has small open areas. Burke was re-habbed last fall. I'd expect Burke to be stocked slightly after ice-out this year and slightly before the opener.

There's a derby on it the opening weekend so it should have a bunch of nice sized fish in it along with the 8-13 inchers.

I was in the general area of Burke yesterday calling coyotes and the lake I was at had the shallow end of it ice free. Main lake was still iced over.

The stocking data, when posted, will be on the WDFW page under stocking data. If it's not there it's not available yet.

I'll be there for the opener. This'll be my first time fishing it in march, I usually go a few times in April and May, should make for a fun weekend.

I'm not too worried about frozen water. I've seen many years where the water was frozen up till a week or so ahead of time. And then there's the other lakes that don't seem to freeze over as long or at all.

What group? yes all the lakes are stocked and not native, they get rehabbed every few years. Yes it can be quite cold on the opener.

Those would be the lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area. They aren't the only lakes in the opener. But to answer your question you could fish at any of them. If you want trout, you'd best stick to Burk and Quincy for planters.

Quincy has a lot of public (read that: free) camping on the west side of the lake where the boat launch is. I believe Burke also has some at the west end. The east end of Burke used to have camping just outside the WDFW gate. I didn't see anyone there last Spring so I don't know if that area is still available.

I wonder how they are going to handle the opener at Burke? It opens on Friday and the fishing derby is the next day. Doesn't sound too productive having the fish stocked right before the derby starts. Maybe they'll have an emergency closure for Friday? Might be tough enforcing that as Burke is such a long lake and it's easy to cross over from Quincy. The area will be mobbed that's for sure. The Quincy lakes have been frozen or just opening up on the opener the past cold springs we seem to get now days, so I hope to see a report from that area soon. Hope for sunny, calm and 50's.....but most often it's cold and windy. Long range forecast has it warming up by the end of the week, so keep your fingers crossed. I've been snowed on a number of openers, so plan for anything. I'll be over there some where. Martha Lk. is usually decent and not so crowded. Being a Friday opener, it's going to be busy every where.

Maybe the Burke Lake derby trout will be planted Friday evening. Martha was crowded as heck on a Thursday opener last year. I think there was over 30 vehicles there.
