You guys who fish no downriggers often

Post by sickbayer » Sun Jun 27, 2010 5:40 pm

ok im off to a lake pearrygin and im leaving my downriggers at home. will be anchoring up and maybe trolling pop gear and wedding rings. so my question to you savy fisherman.
1. Pound for pound if trolling what is your preferred colour of wedding ring?
2. If pulling flat fish what is your preferred size colour?
3. Best weight banana weight for trolling spoons or dodgers?
4. If anchoring up worms or power bait.? Im leaning towards costco shimp shell on!
Oh ill be leaving some pots out for crawdads...
Any help is appreciated......

let me know how shrimp works for trout. I've never seen it used but have had excellent results fishing shrimp chunks for salmon.

Anchoring crawlers floated off the bottom

wedding rings the green and red double whammies with half a crawler tail ( if you want to get these deeper I throw on a 1 oz. sliding weight on thin diamater braid behind your swivel and then the wedding ring.)

every time i've fished Pearrygin, it really wasn't an issue what kind of bait or lure to use. the lake is so well stocked they bite on darn near anything.. me, i'm partial to a green wedding ring and corn powerbait. the shrimp may be a little spendy when most any ol powerbait will work. of course there is the old standby of nightcrawlers and marshmellows:salut: that's a really nice little lake and a beautiful part of our state.:rendeer: :fish:
fishing may not be life, but it's a great alternative

worms over power bait any day
dodger for trout is a joke in my mind, kill the fight to much
I like a nice little 1/4 to 1/2 oz slider weight above a swivel running back to a wedding ring tipped with worn or corn or whatever
more fight less stuff to deal with
My rod and reel, they comfort me.

As far as wedding rings go, I like the smiley blade chartreuse double whammy. You can buy it with just one hook and retie it with a better line and add a second hook.

I have used crawdads and shrimp on lake Conconelly, Pine lake, and Cranberry Lk and done well...Shrimp worked ok at most Eastern Wa lakes that I have fished at over the years.....Well worth trying behind a Wedding ring.

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

Cat food for Crayfish
Troll with a 1.5-3 oz banana or a dipsy diver.
Nightcrawlers off the bottom (use a syringe and put 100 cc of air into the nightcrawler tail to float off the bottom)
I like the red or chartruse with black dots wedding ring blades with a Bolo 3-5 blade troll.
Beer to drink
beef jerky or pepperoni to eat. Salt helps retain fluids.
Have a great time...and DRIVE CAREFUL!!!!!
