Northwest Fishing Reports

I'm kinda weird in that I like to fish for strains of trout that I've never caught before. ( As anyone who saw my first two posts in this forum knows. )

Here's the lineup so far...

Redband Phase Rainbow

Great list, I have those, plus the following:
California Golden Trout
Blue Rainbow (like the Golden gene variant but blue)
Both the Columbia river and the Oregon Plateau versions of the Redband Rainbow (native inland strain of rainbows)
Snake River Fine Spot Cutthroat
Yellowstone Cutthroat
Bonneville Cutthroat
Snake River/Twin Falls Cutthroat variation (located just down stream of Twin Falls near the city of that name)
Utah Cutthroat
Bull Trout
Splake

It's true, my wife is right, I do fish too much. Still, most of these I caught before I was married 28 years ago this month.

14 for me on the 27th of this month,..congrats Archer,..way 2 stay 2gether,..so many people give up after all those years invested,..good job!:salut:

I measure Cutts by they color, not the size, and those are woppers to me. Great shot dude.

This one doesn't fit that mold;

I dont get it

man ive caught some wierd looking trout b4.like ive caught a bunch a trout that look inbwetween rainbows and cutts.but with oreange fins and a big red dot on the side of the face???

Heh...tell me about it. I had one person ask me where he could get some of these for his aquarium.

Wow No_Bad_Skunks and Anglinarcher, i never new that there were so many variations of trout, especially cutthroats.

My list is small:
Rainbow (stockers)
Cutthroat

But i've caught some of the trouts relatives:
King Salmon
Silver Salmon
Pink Salmon

well ive have caught hundereds of them at chambers creek over the past few years.but ive only caught them way way way up stream possibly a few miles up stream.im may go down there to day.so if i do catch one.i will take a pic. for you guys

Not all Coastal Cutthroat Trout are "anadromous."
I believe what you are referring to is more commonly called the Sea-Run Cutthroat--which is, indeed, a Coastal Cutthroat...but one that has spent much of it's life in salt water.
A sea-run cutthroat vs. a coastal cutthroat is the equivalent of a steelhead vs. a rainbow trout. They are the same...only different. :cyclopsan

Coastal Cutthroats have been planted in dozens of Washington's backcountry lakes, beaver ponds, and high lakes which have no direct connection with salt water.

Here is a Coastal Cutthroat that I caught June of this year in Lost Lake (Whatcom Co.)
Unfortunately, the fish was gill-caught and so it was kept. Notice the LARGE prominent black spotting and red slash under it's jaw. This lake has no passible connection to salt water. It's population is entirely freshwater and self-sustaining.



For those interested, there are several variations of the Cutthroat trout:
Bonneville
Coastal
Greenback
Lahontan
Paiute
Rio Grande
Westslope (Montana blackspot)
Yellowstone
Colorado River

The two that are predominately found in Washington would be the Coastal Cutthroat (common on the west-side) and the Montana Blackspot which seems to be found more often in east-side high lakes.

Also, for what it's worth...
Dolly Varden/Bull Trout, Lake Trout/Mackinaw, Silver Trout (extinct), and Brook Trout are not actually trout....they are Char.

I think another example might be the land locked coho salmon.
