We use an RV site and sleep in our cuddy. If you're talking about launching and sleeping in your boat... maybe. Is that what you're talking about?

Sleeping on the boat at the marina.

not familiar with the Marina option. May I suggest if you're going to sleep in your boat to still use the RV Park. Granted you'll have to launch and retrieve each day, but you'll also have your stuff close by everyone when you're enjoying the potluck festivities. Less worry about gear that way.

Mike:
Sounds like a great time. I think the wife and I will have to join in the fun if the weather looks decent at that time. I have no top on the boat, so it might be too cold for us. We'll hope for fair weather. We would be staying at the Wa. state park which is pretty close. Thank you for organizing it. If we come we'll contribute some kind of dish. Looking forward to fishing there. Never been there before.

The weather was excellent for us the first week of May last year. Our video was from the trip we took first week of April, which was much cooler and wetter. The lake trout video we did with Anton Jones last year was from the May trip so you can see how nice it was. Having no top shouldn't be an issue unless we get a bad cold front.
And the fishing - if it's the same you won't regret the drive!
BTW, the State Park area was very good for us that 3rd kokanee trip last year.

Mike. Thanks for the info. I think we will be getting there 2-3 days ahead of the get together to try and figure out where the fish might be hanging out. Then the next week I think we might give Coffeepot a try for a few days of fly fishing for rainbows. Had thought about Omak for the cutts. but I've heard that generally they don't fight very well for their size. Like pulling in a log sort of. Also there is Palmer Lake up that way, but I think the fish here in Merwin are about the same size. It was an awesome 2013 at Merwin this year. This kokanee thing can really get in your blood.

I read somewhere that the size of the kokanee this year in lake Chelan was a bit of a fluke, and not expected to continue. any thoughts or knowledge on this out there?

Given the Genetics of the larger fish, and Lake Chelan's excellent food supply I would have to say that this year should be just like the last two. Chelan's freakish Kokanee are largely due to the fact that some Sockeye cross genetics were introduced creating a larger fish. Even if we don't get the 20" footballs, Chelan was known for its great fishery years before the explosion of the big boys. There hasn't been any dramatic events to the Lake food source either that I know of which has a lot to do with the size of the fish.

Now to gear up and get a crash course on Kokanee from one of you gurus..
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Chelan had a very easy learning curve for me. Just took my go to spinners and dodgers, little shoepeg, some DNA. Fatties were hitting the net all morning long

Hey Mike not sure how this works "RSVP on this thread is requested." but as you know we'll be there. I believe that we will have 6 people in our party. We have our reservation at Lakeshore and will be in the same space as last year. I think that we arrive on Thursday and go home on Tuesday. The potluck idea rocks and will free up some fishing time on our end. We do have a menu plan for our contribution(s?). The Rseas gang is looking forward to this year's event and fun will be had by all.

Toni; if memory serves me well, the marina could be closed because the lake will be filling and may not be at full-pool yet. The ramp/launch facility is about a 10 minute drive from Lakeshore.

So I will be in Chelan to kick the season off March 20-23. I know super early but last year the fish were already in the lower basin at this time. Then a few weekends in April. I hope to be posting lots of reports and getting everyone excited!
