Anyone know if ice is broken up on Newman yet? I saw a report that Liberty Lake's ice was mostly gone. Newman can't be far behind?

Newman Lake is as solid as ever minus the area at the gates. We still about 4 to 7 inches across about 95% of the lake.
I will post when we see a turn. This weekend should help bring it down a bit.
Hope this helps

Ice is off Silver. Does that mean ice is off Newman as well?

Hey Doug...Hauser turned to all open water last weekend, and last year they were pretty close so I'm assuming it is off Newman as well. I think I might try to take a little drive out there this morning to verify. I'll re-post if I do make it out there.

I meant to reply a couple days ago....just confirming that Newman Lake is, in fact, all open water.

What do you mean by "why Newman Lake gets stocked"?
If you mean why does it get stocked with Tiger Muskie, well because they don't reproduce and because they do eat undersized fish and thin them down and because there is an excess of small perch, crappie, bullhead cats, and yes, even carp. The stalking of Tiger Muskies has reduced the number of undersized fish and increased the size of the perch and crappie. They still have work to do in my opinion.
They have not stocked it with trout in some time and if you meant to say 'why
doesn't Newman Lake gets stocked then I would have to say because Newman lake is not the greatest lake for trout survival and because the Tiger Muskie thin out the trout pretty fast due to the lack of deep cool water. They also don't stalk Liberty but with a token number of Browns, mostly due to the same reason.
Now, to follow up with what you said, the carp do impact the lake. They stir up the bottom pretty bad, mixing up the mud, again reducing the survival rate of the trout with the summer heat hits that fairly shallow lake.
Did this help any?

Can you also tell me what type of fish that looks like a trout but has a black tail with a black stripe down the side. Pretty abundant and hangs out with the blue gills and crappies. They are about 8 inches but the other day I saw one about 14 inches. Thanks again
