5.1 million Pinks!!!!!

Was just on the WDFW site and saw that they are expecting 5.1 million humpies back to the Puget Sound this year. That is almost 2 million more than the 3.2 million that was predicted for the 2007 season. And is the biggest expected run since the 1960's.

And the numbers expected per system.

The bug rod is perfect for catching pinks in saltwater. I don't even bother with the boat. I just fish the traditional migration paths from shore and catch all the pinks I want by using a size 6 pink or green comet fly. I don't keep river fish myself as they don't please my palate. I do have friends that I take out that love catching and eating them no matter where they are caught.

A few 100 plus fish days on the river in 2007 between usually my brother and myself in the river. Most days were at the very least 40-50 fish. A few dark fish, but mostly bright. I can't imagine what this year will bring.
Have tons of other pics from the other camera, just can't figure out how to make them smaller so they will fit?????#-o
Chrome on the back and in the Sky, still plenty good to take home.

Careful you don't hook a king while your fishing such light line:) Caught one of my biggest kings fishing for pinks a while ago it was 30lbs and Im glad I was using my king setup. I dont think Im brave enough to go under ten lb line.

I can't wait for the pinks to be here. I haven't found fishing for them in the rivers to be very productive. I watched one guy next to me in on a river trip take his 4 in about an hour. He was using a chartreuse/chrome kast master which I didn't have at the time. I do now. I would sure like to know (if anyone is feeling generous) what the lure of choice is in the rivers to catch several in a day. Anyone? Thanks.

STOP STOP
STOP STOP
I don't know your spots, I hate that side of the state, and when I come over for business, I let someone else drive, BUT NOW YOU HAVE ME CHOMPING AT THE BIT.
Who wants to trade a Pink fishing trip for a Rufus Woods or a Rock Lake trip?:bball: :cyclopsan
I suspect you guys will not be able to shut up all season long.

Dave,
I used 3 different setups in 07 on the Snohomish:
1) Pink jig (1/4 oz.)
2) Green mini hootchie jig (1/4 oz)
3) Pink Dick Nite
I did VERY well on the green hootchie jig. Small hootchies though. Sometimes I trimmed up the skirt a bit so it wasn't too big. I find that the smaller the jig the better it works, but ya need about a 1/4oz to get some decent casting range. I ran these jigs off 6 or 8lb mainline on my 7 foot spinning rods.
The proper action for the jig is more important (my opinion) than the color. The proper "twitch" of a jig and keeping it in the bottom 1/3rd of the water column is greatly important (I fish deep slow water stretches of teh Snohomish) and if you can twitch a jig (small, 6" rod tip movements ever few seconds) then you'll catch some pinks. Feel free to PM me if you want more info on twitching jigs...

How about this one - a small pink corky, yarn pink as well (maybe a slight color contrast) and 3 ft leader to a drop weight. Cast and slow retrieve. Get's em every time.
