cowlitz steelhead
I need to feel a tug, and can't wait until June. So I will be heading down to the Cowlitz this weekend. I will be fishing from the bank and not exactly sure where to start. Should I start at "the wall" or Blue Creek? Also, would you advise people to sleep in their car at the parking lot? With a 3 fish limit and 734,000 smolt plant, I'm feeling pretty lucky. Too bad it's 3+ hours away.
Re: cowlitz steelhead
I've seen successful bank fishing just below the Blue Creek launch and also down below the creek. Access below the creek looks limited due to numerous slides, but there seems to be enough access.
Fish limit on steelhead is 2, not 3.
Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up on the limit change April 1st.
Re: cowlitz steelhead
The way I'm reading it - the limit changes to ZERO between April 1st and the first Friday in June, with trout closed during that time.4steelhead wrote:Thanks for the heads up on the limit change April 1st.

Apr. 1-Fri. before
first Sat. in June
Catch-and-release except up to 3 hatchery STEELHEAD may be
retained.
You can still keep steelhead, and three is the limit even after March 31st. Straight from the WDFW page 57.

Re: cowlitz steelhead
Thanks Nate.
I am heading down Saturday to try my luck, don't think I will have to worry about the 3 fish limit, just hoping I do not get skunked.
