Good Morning All!

I am very sheltered when it comes to salmon fishing, my experience has only been on the Puyallup river drift fishing yarn and corkies to catch pinks/silvers. I don't have a boat and always wade out and was wondering if i could get some advice on other techniques and the rivers to use them on. I live out by JBLM and would love to fish some other rivers than the Puyallup but would hate to drive out without knowing where or what I'm doing!

Any set-up and location advice would be really appreciated so i don't end up getting yelled at by the wife and wasting a day at the river.

Thank ya!

my best advice would to take a look at these books:
color guide to drift fishing for steelhead by bill herzog
bank fishing for salmon by scott haugen
float fishing by dave vedder
spoon fishing for steelhead by bill herzog

there's a lot good info on finding fish and the various techniques for different water you'll encounter. i believe the library should have some of these or they're fairly cheap on amazon.

as for rivers you should be able to find some fish in the nisqually, cowlitz, green, and skokomish about now. skookumchuk, minter creek, kennedy creek should have chums coming in the next couple weeks. just be sure to check the regs before heading out because the rules vary quite a bit between different rivers.
