Things are getting good on the lower quinault. Really good. I usually run over there this time of year but this year my wife wants me to stay with the family. So I bring up the idea to make it a family trip and dear ol dad is just gunna slip away for one day to do some steelheadin with my brothers and cousins yhen go right back to being the family guy for the rest of the trip . My problem is, everytime I take my wife and kids over in the winter, they are completely miserable and regret coming. So I decided to turn to y'all for help. Anybody have any ideas for winter activities in and around ocean shores to do in the winter(besides fishing and clamming)?

I believe they have horseback riding somewhere down there. It was quite a few years back when I did it, but that might be something the wife and kids might enjoy if you arent too far away from it when you go down. Wish I could be of more help for you like the name of the place that does it or where exactly it was located, but I just cant remember. Good Luck man hope all works out for you and the family!!!

If it is an established thing that you do every year, and has never been a problem before, it shouldn't be a problem now. She's got a problem with it all of sudden (even if she isn't saying so in so many words) so getting to the bottom of her sudden issue with it is my advice.
I understand the need to make compromises and such, and don't have an issue with doing so. But having to compromise on established things/activities usually means something else/bigger is going on.
Just sayin...

Thanks Dr Phil! Seriously, getting to the root is some sound advice. Not knowing more than has been revealed in the original post ( not sayin I need anymore info).
+1 on the advice from Dr gohookit.
There is or was a go cart track at Ocean Shores. Also, is or was an orv park midway down ocean shores. Could rent orv's and race around on an oval, dirt track.

Yea like I was saying im not 100% sure but the last time I went down there, all the family was riding horses along the beaches and stuff. Seemed perfect for the wife and kids. But who knows, all wifes and kids are different!! Again, good luck man hope all is well for you and the family!

Is kite flying on the beach something the fam would find fun? Driving on the beach? Those kites that steer/manuever/free style are big step in the entrainment/skill department. When comparing to the basic type kite. Last time I was down there, a guy from a kite shop in town was demoing the steer kite's.
I can't express the difference. Like playing a video game for a kid. Except the wind is actually blowing through there hair and passing through the lungs.

If they are just going to be miserable already then its a no brainer to leave em at home. Its hard to please the wife when it comes to fishing but just go by yourself and tell em that you will do what they want to do the next weekend. In my mind fishing trips are a lot more enjoyable if you leave the family at home.
