We're heading to forks this weekend for summer steelhead was wondering how do you access Tall Timbers or the opposite side of the calawah ponds from the bank?

The opposite side of the Calawah is what I was talking about. As of last winter the road was open. Not sure now. Haven't been out there this summer.BlakeP wrote:I think that road is still closed...Not sure though. As for the opposite side of the Calawah Ponds, only way I know is to wade across from the shallow rapids at the end of the tailout.
Not really. You really should invest in a GPS if you don't have one. That's really the only way you'll find the good spots. The locals, and even myself, are pretty tight lipped about the money spots.Brat Bonker wrote:Are there parking areas or trails so you know you at the right place.
I'm not going to give you a google map to all the good spots. The Calawah confluence isn't a big secret, it's sort of a ***** to get to though on the other side. I'm not going to complain if someone does tell him about it, but if you want all the goodies, you have to pay me. I'm starting to get really annoyed at the snooty OP folks though, so I'm going to give away more and more just to spite them. The road to the Calawah is connected to goodman mainline, although you can't really get there from that end a map will give you a good idea of where you have to go.kieth stone wrote:tight lipped????
Lake ck? You can hike to it, but it's not really an easy spot to find. I kinda know where it is, but I've never fished there my self. Also, when you said the opposite side of the Calawah ponds, you're talking about the hatchery ponds right?Brat Bonker wrote:alright thanks guys what about lake ck hole on the Sol Duc, is it boat only or can you hike there?

If you don't want to share the river, and some of the places that are well known, than I think you're probably not among the nice anglers. I hate hearing folks complain about crowds, getting irritable on the river if there's someone within 300 yards. This is a fishing information website. The amount of fishable river have been cut in half in the last 10 years, they're not planting anymore. The number of fishermen is not decreasing, in fact it's increasing. So get used to it. Every time I get hate mail from an OP snob, I'm going to post another article on a "secret" spot. Because I know them all. And knowing the spot doesn't mean you'll be able to catch fish, giving away information actually helps my business, it doesn't hinder it.kieth stone wrote:natetreat wrote:I'm not going to give you a google map to all the good spots. snooty op folks? would u not be putting off or ticking off the non snooty op folks at the same time to spite the snooters?
Not causing trouble, and I wasn't talking about you. You'll know who I'm talking about when they show up. It just drives me nuts when we talk about far off places and people get angry. Pretty sure the thread got locked, but there's a great one about the salmon river last winter.kieth stone wrote:hey man. I'm not snooty or giving you mail of any kind. just cause I'm not handing out beta does not mean i got some issue with anyone. i just don't fish that stream enough to be any kind of authority. I'm just hoping to glean some info from the master like everyone else. thanks for the map. I'll be there with my buddies as well this weekend. I'll bring cookies.
is that the counfluence?, The ponds are up Where it's all frog water, and shallow. Real long stretch all the way to the hatchery intake. As for lake ck, I've heard its good too, just haven't had time to find it.Brat Bonker wrote:yeah, right before the rapids/tail out of the ponds theres that little gravel bar on the other side of the river, I saw people over there walking down from a trail and was wondering what road got them there. Also i heard lake ck is a good hole on the sol duc but I have never been there.
