What did you mark it as on your punch card?
If I was a guesser I'd say you got a steelhead from the Carbon River.

That is one skinny fish. I wouldn't eat it. Looks like it's in bad condition. I think also that it is a steelhead. Or just a huge rainbow.

Hatchery Steelie:cheers: and from the looks of the background and your location my guess would be a Voights Creek hatchery fish (Carbon).:thumright

100% hatchery Steelhead! It looks like a summer run. It would still taste good because it hadnt started spawning quite yet. Nice fish, looks around 4-6 pounds!

My punch card says Steelhead hatchery #802.
I have never caught a Steelhead before. I have never even tried to catch one. I was after Silvers. Now I know. I didn't even know the Carbon had them.
Thanks for the input.

Did it put up a good fight? All mine take off and strip line like crazy! Oh well it might help if u used 8Lb test like me. IM not quite sure what pound test u were using, but for salmon it might be quite bigger.

I thought at first I was caught on the bottom. Then I had enough time to think "this is a fish" when it jumped. So I knew it wasn't an old pink. My reel was brand new so I had to adjust the drag. It did not put up the fight that I had heard about. I don't know if my reel had any thing to do with the fight. What amazed me was the weight it had when I dragged it on shore. It was skinny but very thick. My sons and I thought it was great for dinner.
What a surprise this has been.

Congrats on your first steelhead. Those suckers are very popular fish to target around here...They really put together a good fight. Congrats man.

steelie, note the missing adipose fin (top back fin is a stump). Very important as many rivers don't allow keeping native steelies. Nice fish and a good job.
