Went fishing with the "Whitefish Master" Gordy in the Yakima Canyon. While the fishing wasn't great we did catch fish. Unfortunate for me I had to catch the first fish on the first cast and did not get any more. Gordy said that it was bad luck to do so and has been proven several times by me while fishing with him!!!!??? The one whitefish I caught was also the smallest with Gordy putting 6 in the bucket. I did get 5 incidental bows, 1 big sucker, and took home 2 bows from N. Elton Pond. Which I just got done smoking tonight.

I will smoke it! though I thought I'd pickle it. Sucker actually taste good smoked but for the many bones. Pickling is even better as the bones dissolve. But I would want a few more of them to make it worth the time. Use to catch hundreds of them in the early spring during their spawning runs in the early spring in minnesota. The ones I would catch were "red horse suckers" out of the Crow river in Minnesota.

Yea, what he said? How does the sucker compare to trout or whitefish for eats?

Well, that answers the trivia question.

Sucker has a good taste when it is from clean waters. it will have an off taste from warmer/ muddier waters.

I don't think that first cast fish is bad luck at all. Just means next time you'll fill a bucket full. My favorite is when I get a first cast fish after showing up at say, noon and asking how the fishing is. Everybody's like, it's SLOOOOOOW, only 2 to the bank all morning. Three seconds into the drift, bobber down! Play, bonk and mark, second cast fish on! But then you have to go home early, so I guess that could be bad luck.

I did this many times with the kings this year. First cast boom! Then slow for a while but always caught fish.

Crow River! My granddad used to have a farm on the Crow River in Minnesota. As kids our visits were always an adventure. I still tell stories of our outdoor exploits while visiting the farm. Stories of ice fishing, catching night crawlers, catching bullheads out of a galvanized milk pail filled with water from a hand pump wellhead and having a 600 pound hog follow us around as we explored the fishing opportunities on my grandparents farm.
