Northwest Fishing Reports

I know a nearby stream with a healthy cutthroat population. I would like to target them over Christmas when I have some free time to fish. However, is catching stream cutthroat when the water is high and muddy really feasible? I've caught them during the summer, with clear water and plenty of slow pools, but I'm a little bit at a loss for what to throw when the water is higher this time of the year.

Any tips or thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try scaled down steelhead gear like small spinners, spoons, jigs and streamers. Work over the shallower areas outside of the main current and leave the slack water alone. Thigh high water is perfect, cutts don't mind the shallows, ever fished them in the salt? If the waters you are fishing allow the use of bait, a singe egg or two on a hook will do the trick as well. And don't be surprised if you hook into a steelhead while targeting cutts. Steelhead can be found in the shallows as well, especially in times of high flows.

Yeah use slightly bigger clumps of eggs. dont be afraid to use hooks like number 2's. cutties have big mouths. Another really good bait is a nightcrawler fished with some pink yarn for added visibility. they like the crawlerrs because when a stream floods, worms will get washed into the stream, mimicking natural forage.

Jig and bobber with a chunk of worm. We slay them big time with alot of rainbows aswell.

We cast right on the edge of whatever fishing. Reminds me of bass fishing.
