While those Abu's won't cast those lighter weights as easy as your Curado, they will cast 1/2 ounce pretty well. Also, if you use less weight than the rod is rated for, you end up having to put more power into your cast which will make it tough to cast. That's why I love my Curado, I don't know what it is about it, but it is the most responsive and castable reel I have. I just picked up a Quantum Smoke and it is even hard to control comparatively. So it could be that with the power of your rod, 3/8 may be a bit light, 1/2 ounce is going to cast a lot easier on any reel.
have you tried the new curados?
IMO they are Garbage compared to last years model. Cheaply made seems like Shimano slapped the curado name on a lower model and slapped chronoarc on the curado. if that makes any sense.
I am a big Curado fan I recently traded my 301 for a Revo Winch today, I love the way it cast a lot better way smoother retrieve. I have 2 more curado's 201e7's I like those but I always had issued flinging light weights. I traded mainly for the line cap and slow retrieve so it will be better I feel for casting spoons.

That's basically what they did to the "G" series curados. Shimano downgraded the quality of the bearings and a few other parts to use the curado name so they could be more competitive in the $159 price range. That's why the chronarchs are at the same price point that curados use to be (they're basically white curados). Earlier in the year when i was shopping for another baitcaster for my spoon rod i did a lot of research on the new curados and a few other selected reels and when i finally got to fondle a "G" it felt cheap compared to my 200e5.

I ended up buying a revo inshore online for 150 new in box. i love the revos and as soon as my 200e5 dies i'll be switching completely to revos, unless abu gets stupid like shimano did.
