Well the salmon are in the nooksack!
Question, I was catching lots of small 6" rainbows, however I caught a couple silver fish that had no markings, and look like a 6" sardine. "They are completely silver, and with a forked tail. Any ideas on what these are?

Without a picture I couldn't answer that but could they may have been whitefish?ydeardorff wrote:Well the salmon are in the nooksack!

That picture looks just like what I was catching. Plus tons of rainbows. I saw one gorgeous sized salmon. Pissed or spooked it away.
Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
Where did you catch them at? I was hooking them just behind the Nooksack Casino

I have been catching small coho smolts, but these are new. They look like the whitefish in the picture. All are about the same size, and they fight like hell for their size. Fun, but not what Im fishing for.branweeds wrote:I think they are salmon smolts. I have been catching them as well. They were jumping everywhere too

Then most likely white fish. If they are shiny with no spots, have adipose fin, forked tail and smallish mouth they are white fish. Good smoked if they have the right size on them. Also not sure what the regs on them are!ydeardorff wrote:I have been catching small coho smolts, but these are new. They look like the whitefish in the picture. Well the north fork was a bust on the upper near the hatchery except for a nice 18" dolly that almost took the rod outta my hand on a 50/50 wee dicknite... As far as the south fork is concerned i learned today just whats going on up there, and to tell you the truth its a joke too... After wading thru the normal holes i decided to head above the hatchery and can tell you that the guys are basically weeding thru old boot kings hoping for coho... I wouldn't even want to hook one of them knarly ol spawners.... i did see a few boot kings 30"+ below the hatchery hole surfacing off and on.... Hoping this rain will bring in some fresh fish sooner then later
Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
At the south fork today, landed a nice red male wild coho. No keepers but the fish are there!

the everson bridge was a bust as well last night. Not even bites from small fish.
Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
I'll be back on the South Fork tomorrow and this weekend, another pod should be coming up the river from the rain we have been having. fingers crossed
Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
-i plan on hitting the nook from south fork to deming tomorrow --- Monday morning since the rains have muddied the system.... seen fish surfacing in deming friday for a few min when i stopped by... Nets are out and fish are moving!
Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
Post back after you go out! Would love to know how the river is looking after all the rain
Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
Does anyone know where to check the river water heights online? I've heard of people checking...but no idea how to do so for myself. Thanks!
