Try over on the PP board also, there has been a few threads brought up about downed DB's over there. It seems a couple guys at least know who owned the downed boats. Good on you for trying to get it back to the owner. =D>

It would be interesting to find out if salvage rights apply to non-navigable waters.

Serial Number?????? Did you report it to the police? You could be in possession of stolen property.

If you put a lot of effort into getting it out they need to pay you. I think 1,500 dollars is a good number if you had to pay for it done professionally. 750 for a private person...

I am not sure who all these people are, but two of the boats have been recovered. We are trying to get one of them back to the owner who does not really consider what we have done very kind, but then again I don't really like folks that are dumpin trash in my back yard either! Luckily Salvage rules apply and we might have a buyer for it if the owner doesn't wise up.

I am guessing that is you Skip callin yourself the lowholer, pretty funny about the whisky in that Applejuice jug, I drank that on the way home and it wasn't half bad.

He probably had insurance on the boat and wants to collect on that instead of getting the boat back. Might even have sunk the boat on purpose. :-k

I think you're doing a great job by getting them out of the river. My only suggestion would be to check with the police because if the boat was reported stolen for some reason you could be in a lot of trouble if you don't. If it's not been reported, go for gusto. I found a Kayak, one of those nice cruiser types washed up on the beach. I asked all the neighbors, nada. Called the police and asked, they took the serial # and said to just hold on to the boat, I think it was like 10 weeks, a long time. They called back after about 4 weeks and said the boat had been reported stolen and came and picked it up with the insurance Co that paid on it. People do watch CL and other forums for boats for sale, if you have it, and they have reported it, they could come by with the police. Don't think that just because you have salvage rights it's yours. I was involved with a group that recovered ship wrecks that were over 100 years old and in international waters. Insurance companies will always sue and push the police to do their jobs.

AMX, that was a thought I was entertaining too!
