Where would I have the best chance of catching a Steelhead?

I think if the transducer wire is long enough. A bank angler/guide, could deploy the transducer on the back of a rc boat or customized side planer and view the screen from the river bank. Not that it needed it. But I think the deal was sweetened with a small portable battery? I hope it has side scan, cause looking straight down, the beam would be about 2" total diameter in typical river depths!

i dont know where you live but if you want a chance at catching a NICE steelhead then you should buy the vedder license and fish there. Tire slashing doesnt happen in the winter, and if your close enough to go fishing at least 1 or 2 times a week, its the best river within driving distance of seattle for non-hatchery brat fish. Caught 65 steelhead in 21 trips last year, PLENTY were over 15lbs. Got a 18lb hatch fish and natives bigger. Forget it if you dont live north of seattle however.

I know ive posted these pics 1000 times but idk if youve seen um Mikeel, maybe to spark your interest, and i like posting them . These fish happen almost daily up there. 150$ license. Its same price as ONE guide trip but if you go enough its much more worth it.

What's this bedded liscense? I've never even heard of that kinda sounds cool. I live down south of Olympia but how long does this run last and how long is the liscense last?

Bedded? not sure what that means. But the license lasts a whole year, and renews in March, so if you get it in march, it will last you the rest of this year for steelhead (APril is the BEST MONTH on the river for steel) all the way until the next march, so u can fish a lot of the next winter on the same license. Run is December-April 31st. The closer to April, the better the fishing is.

Sory ment vedder phone tried to auto correct. So do I buy this at the same dealer I bout my regular liscense or where? Also would it still be beneficial for this year? Where exactly is this place at? Do you get to fish for other fish with this liscense or just steelhead and is there alot of fishing pressure?

Well the vedder is in Canada. Its about 20 minutes past the border in Sumas, or like 30 mins past border at Blaine. Gotta buy it up there, theres a good tackle shop right along side the river you buy it at. Cost and extra 40$ And you can fish salmon with the license too. great salmon fishing up there, but it gets crowded during salmon season. Steelhead seasons there are people there, but its nothing like fishing the cowlitz or anything. No boats allowed, bank only, and theres probably 1-2 people in each 200 foot long drift, plenty of space, especially after March 15th when the derby is over. giant steelies bro. You wouldnt wanna buy license now, because it has to be renewed in March. If you bought it after the renewal at the end of march, you could fish April this year, the best month, and then ALL of next year until the deadline in the end of april again.

Hi guys , Just joined and saw the wonderful conversation you all were having.....lol I think the gentleman who started this conversation was looking for you expertize in getting started in fishing for some steehead. The only thing I saw was directing him to get a "guide". All though I'm sure that is the best way to learn, this is a fishing forum and FREE advice should be given FREELY. Think of it as your nephew calling you and asking. Because like him, I to would like to ask some questions without being directed to a "guide. Now, with that being said. Would any of you be willing to help me have a more enjoyable experience by giving me advice ( without a guide ) on what to use, where to fish, and some of the things that you have learned that work and don't work. Remember, a bad day of fishing is better than any good day in the office !!

Visa - no
Passport or enhanced DL - yes

Limits and what you can transport, somebody else will have to chime in on.

2 daily limits and suppose to be kept whole so they can be identified etc. You don't have to worry much about transporting them back across the border since it is just US customs & they don't care about the fish.

yeah just remember you can only keep 1 steelhead a day from the vedder, then you have to stop fishing for the day
