ive had many conversations with many anglers, and ive read a ton of reports. i have come to the conclusion that everyone has a different opinion of what constitutes as a decent / quality bass.
ive never heard of this lake before... so my guess would be there is no decent sized bass in there. decent being 5+ lbs.

I guess I didn't really mean to start a conversation on bass size. I just wanted to see some reports on the lake as the last wl.com report is from quite a while ago.
Sorry T Dot
On a side note, i have yet to catch a bass over a pound...nothing over ten inches

i see that you are in everett, one place you can start is howard. its small, and its very easy to catch bass over a pound.
ive heard anglers talking about bass in silver, some guy says he caught a 3lber or something along those lines. it didnt look like these guys were really bass anglers, so a 3lber to them - is often a 1lber 2lber tops. i have no idea how you can put a boat in that lake though.

Howard Lake has a WDFW public access where boats can be launched. I have fished it for bass and caught fish up to about 2 pounds. That was several years ago and the bass should be a lot larger by now.

I fished that lake about twenty years ago and it had only small bass ( maybe they are all grown up now ) but what I remember best about the lake was its HUGE crappie, not many but the one we caught were some of the biggest I've seen for this state. The lake can get stagnant and overcome with algae in the summer months. Good luck

My friend and I went to Hilton today, arriving at about 3 and leaving at 6.
I started off by using a weightless Zoom Baby Brush Hog (pumpkin). Wow! I hooked one that was easily 4 pounds, then it got tangled in the pads and I lost her! About 10 minutes later, in the same spot, I missed another one!
My friend used a 4" senko (junebug) and also lost a 4-5 pounder...
All in all, I lost a few bass, a popper, buzzbait (Wal-Mart luckily), and a curly tailed grub.
I will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Travis, based on your report, and the fact that I live blocks from Hilton, I'm gonna head over there this afternoon (Monday). Me and a buddy are gonna float tube it around 4-6 PM. How did you access the lake, and were you fishing the upper or lower area?
Oh, Tdot, I have caught a 2.5 pounder out of Silver about a month or more ago, but have yet to catch one again. And, yes, I used a scale lol.

My girlfriend is telling me that there are private signs up for Hilton, but I'm jumping out there anyways. I will report back on that tonight or tomorrow.
Travis, have you fished Ruggs lake just southeast of Silver lake? I was thinking about trying that too, but I dont know if it is private or not, or how to access it.

its rare someone has a scale - gj. there are others who just throw out numbers and what not. i can quickly tell how far they stretch the truth by looking in their tackle box, or asking to show me how big it was with their hands.
is there a way to put a boat in silver?

Yeah, the west side has a launch, but I have heard mixed reviews on whether people can put in boats there now. One person I talked to said a ranger told them no, but then saw someone launch right in front of the ranger a few hours later. Hard to tell, but I'm gonna have to find out soon if I want to take my boys trolling.
Plus, its good to have a scale when you are betting with your friends who has the largest.
doesnt work with us lol.

Did I talk to you Snoho? Was that you guys with the pontoon and tube?
Well, I ended up just catching one LM ..probably about 1 pound. I used a pumpkin color Zoom Baby Brush Hog and 10# line. It was a really nice day to fish!

I do believe you did. I was in the float tube, my buddy in the pontoon. Which guy was you?
We should meet up and go fishing together sometime. I just got a 12' boat and plan to go a lot this summer.
I want to try Ruggs lake soon. Its down off 25th, just parallel to 35th. Check it out on Google maps. there is new housing going in near the lake, so parking should be available near the construction sites.

Length isn't always a good indicator of the weight of a fish. Like humans, some fish are long and skinny while others are short and stocky.
Not having a scale sucks when you catch a big fish! This morning I ordered the boga grip model 315 that will weigh fish up to 15 lbs in 1/4 lb increments. Hopefully I'll get to break it in this weekend! (Naturally, I reserve the fisherman's right to lie about his catch.
)
I'm a big believer in handling fish as little as possible if they are going to be released. The boga grip looks like the best option to land, weigh, snap a few pics, then release. I shouldn't have to touch another bass! The big largmouth I caught last Friday had a spaz attack while I was taking pictures of her and ended up slipping out of my grip & flopping around in the bottom of my boat.
No doubt it rubbed off some of her protective slime. I hope she's OK...

Yeah I was the one in the white hat. I talked to the guy with the pontoon as you two were walking out.
I'm trying to actually find a pontoon/float tube for those sorts of lakes.

Damn, I just sold my old float tube to my other friend. I see tubes on craigslist for $40-$50. They are generally good brands, like Caddis.
