Hey guys most of my fishing experience is with trout and I recently got turned on to bass fishing i was hoping i could get some advice just to get me started? In addition to this post i have also been reading other posts and reading articles on this site but i was hoping i could get some pointers directed to me and others just getting started. thanks!

Here`s a quick crash course.Depending on what lake and what side of the mountains your baits will change. Sencos are your best friend in beginning bass fishing. They will give you the feel and what to expect from bass fishing.Really no wrong way to fish a senco. There also like a big trout worm. Can`t go wrong with a crankbait. Until you get the hang of it throw it to as much cover and lake points as you can. Eventually you will figure out where and why. When deciding colors match the hatch. Crawfish,perch,bluegill and what ever else is in that specific lake. Most lakes have these. Pay attention to the bite. As in the depth,your retrieval speed,cover etc. You can read all you want but time on the water is crucial. After your first bass say so long to trout fishing. You won`t want to go back. I`ve found nothing like bass fishing. Still gets my blood pumping. Hope this helps. The other guys will be along and can add a few or alot of things also. Wecome to the site. There are a massive amount of bass articles archived on the site. To easily find them, go to the Search page of the site, type in "bass", and select the bullet for fishing articles. That'll give you a wealth of information to look at.

I could go on and on. rjn summed it up pretty well, and as Mike pointed out...lots of articles archived. Also what rjn pointed out...time on the water is crucial.

And, if you can afford it, hiring a guide to get you started is not a bad idea. It can take months, maybe years off the learning curve.

Better yet, make a good friend on WL that Bass fishes. I have a local friend that hated Bass, now the poor guy is hooked. Same with Walleye, friends make learning so much easier.

I just picked up a new rod and reel and some other stuff last night I'm gonna give it a shot on Sunday. Iv been reading a ton of articles about bass fishing but the only thing I was having a hard time finding was how to set up my bait and stuff like that I know most of that I can learn by going with someone but i was just wondering if you guys knew of any articles about that stuff that I could of missed?

spinners are also a great way to get into bass fishing. not the only nor the best but it is a great way. I notice your in snohomish and i will give you my favorite spinner color...... ok it is a black and blue mini king spinner. ouch that was hard to tell lol. seriously thou I have this in my box always because with days of catching 40 bass ranging from 8-13 inches repeated made me feel goooood. It is a great add to any bass box. caught some 16-19 inchers with this little guy as well. Oh ya have also had some 20-26 inch trout on this ...i need to stop or i will never find these in the store as it always goes quick when stocked. anyway there are so many ways to fish them just dont overwhelm your self at the tackle shops. pick a couple styles of lures and go have a blast. you will soon forget any other species, almost.

NICE!!! thanks for the tip! I think next time i go ill try some lures out, i went for the first time yesterday and i was just using pre-rigged worms and senkos (wacky) i only caught 2 TINY large mouth and a pretty big sun fish but it was still pretty fun. I was surprised that even the tiny bass hit way harder than a descent sized trout.

I would agree with all that have responded to your plea. However,as tournamnet angler plus owning my own bait company, there are always different approaches to bass fishing.
A few things you left out were where you fish (lakes) and the various conditions and cover/structure your lake offers. ragncajun did hit on some important facts but I would feel other info would be crucial in giving you more specific advice.
I have just recently come on board with this site and will probably feel my way through it, but, as an avid basser myself, I will gladly share info to help anyone out when it comes baits, colors, shapes, etc. to help catch more fish.
Hope to see more questions re: bass fishing and anythng related.

For lakes that allow bait- a hook and a fat night crawler is never a bad idea for bass, LM or SM. Rig the night crawler like you would a Texas rigged Senko. I usually go weightless. This is only after not much luck on cranks/ plastics/ spinners, etc. I always try lures first.

Dark water, wood cover [laydowns, brush, lillies, docks]
weather was rainy no wind,i started out fan casting through the structures then if i didnt get anything i moved down to another structure.
