Northwest Fishing Reports

I'm heading to lake roosevelt fof a houseboat trip with a bunch of folks and towing the fishing boat behind. Can anyone offer a good setup to get into the fish there. Obviouosly I'd love to find trout but perch are tasty too. I've got all the rods - just not the memory of how I caught fish before I got a fly rod. Thanks!!

Trust me not trying to be rude but you would be far more likely to find good advice in the trout fishing forum. this is the bass fishing forum, and I can't speak for everyone but I've never touched a fly rod and if I catch a trout it's almost always by accident, and if i catch a perch it's always by accident.

I have had very little sucess on the fly on Roosevelt. I have caught a couple of smallies on beadhead nymphs. I would bring terminal gear and keep a fly rod ready when you get into them

Thanks for the tips. What I meant is that I don't plan to bring the fly gear - I am bringing spinning gear set-ups and just don't have a clue as clue as to where to go on this lake. I am certainly not averse to getting into bass either. I grew up on Folsom in CA and have fond memories of bass fishing there, so long ago though.... and I realized after the post this was in the bass section - couldn't figure out how to delete from this section - thanks again!

If you're looking for bass on Roosevelt then that's a totally different story. look for steep banks, lay downs, and weed flats, of which there are about a million of each. the smallies will hit soft plastics, jerk baits, and jigs. bring a decent pole and some good 10lb+ line as there are some monsters out there, and of course there's always the chance of a giant walleye.

trout are trout....use some silver spinners or regular trout gear like bait.

For smallmouth you are going to a great lake. We used some gary yamamoto curly tail grubs in a dark green/watermelon color texas rigged (weight, hook, and worm) and just threw toward rocky shores. Just let the bait fall for a few seconds, keeping slack out of the line. Slowly bring it in. Really, just leave the bait alone more than you think feels right, and you will catch a ton of smallies! You can catch them on pretty light weight gear too.
