Pend Oreille River

I'm planning a trip to NE WA this summer and definitely want to fish the Pend Oreille River. What's a good stretch of river nearest Spokane that has good opportunities for bass and pike? Maybe more importantly, where are the good sections to fish it from a float tube, pontoon or small boat?

Also, are there any other good lakes in that area to get bass from a float tube?

Thanks!

I personally like to launch out of Cusick and fish North and South in any of the slews. I just bass fish and catch plenty of pike. Check the regulations I believe you cant fish on the east side of the river from Usk to just above Cusick, its reservation and off limits.

Mr. Magler ,
For fishing out of a tube there is really only one good place. That is Ashton feltcher bay. You can drive right down to the water if you have a truck or SUV. It is shallow in the inner bay from 3 to 6 ft, (water levels can go up or down 3 to 6 ft)but gets deep 8 to 22 ft. in the outer part of the bay next to the main river channel. The inner bay has a lot of fish in it in late april to early May. Both Pike and bass use this bay a lot, and later you can still catch them in the outer bay. The inner bay has no current and the outer bay up to the red line across it by the river has only a small amount of current. Beyond the bay though the main river channel has quite a bit so stay away from it if your in a tube. If you fish this in May you will see a ton of fish, it's up to you to catch em. lol
Here is a map on how to get to the bay from Newport Wa. This is the closest spot you can fish the river from Spokane also.

I see I made a typo on the map is should read " It's a fair dirt road and any pickup or SUV can get down there".

On a float tube you could do Ashenfelter Bay like Fish n Fool suggests. I prefer the area around Cusick personally. Callispell Creek is a good spot, you just need to purchase a Tribal Liscense for $10 at the gas station right there on the Highway- I can point you to more places that would be float tube friendly if you'd like just shoot me a pm.

Just remember to release the bigger ones so I can catch them again later!:compress:

Hey Mark I have 2 questions for you.

First, Is the Name of the Bay, Aston Feltcher like I was told or as you wrote it Ashenfelter?

Second, Just how much of that Calispel Creek bay can you fish? Can you get a boat under the R&R tracks? or HWY20?
Oh 3rd question. lol
Is that permit 10 bucks a year? or 10 bucks a day?

Ive known it as Ashenfelter Bay. And I believe Warren Rd. turns into Ashenfelter Bay Rd. right there.

You can only fish from the main river to that spot. I believe it's a dam. And, it's 10 bucks for the whole year. Not really worth it if your gonna be fishing from a boat though. It's just an easy place to get access from the shore.
