And as expected the closure was just announced. Today is your last shot if you are going to go - it is closed effective 11/15.

Re: Whatcom Creek - Bellingham Wa
Stopped by to have a look a couple hours ago - still nothing. No fish on, very few anglers, and nothing I could spot in the ponds. Only 1 seal. Maybe they have given up.

Re: Whatcom Creek - Bellingham Wa
I expect it will be closed soon due to a lack of broodstock. Ironically, most of the fish bypass the fish ladder anyway, so that won't really help. We need anglers there to put them in the hatchery tube. They should just close retention and make it catch and release into the hatchery tube only.

Re: Whatcom Creek - Bellingham Wa
According to the escapement reports, the hatchery has only received 20 chum as of 11/7. That is dismal. What's worse is that 18 of the 20 are listed under "mortality", which means they only have 2 fish on hand. People need to be very careful when transporting their fish from the steps to the tube - ...

Re: Thoughts on a Travel Rod/Gear for Fall River Fishing?
What is your budget, and are you planning on using the setup after this trip? An easy option would be to stop somewhere like Fred Meyer (the local Kroger megastore all over Washington) or Wal-mart and purchase a cheap medium-weight spinning setup for the weekend. Then leave it at your cabin rental f...

Re: Remote camp site advice needed!
Lake Daiblo, or if you can arrange the portage Lake Ross. On the eastside you could try Palmer lake (bunch of remote lakes in that area if you want to get farther out like Chopaka) or someplace on Lake Roosevelt. I was camping and Kayaking at Diablo last week - although beautiful, it is fairly busy...

Re: San Juan sockeye
Think Baker Lake but unfortunately the best area is closed in support of orca socializing. You can probably find more info on BC fishing forums because in years when the Fraser River sockeye are open, they troll for them in the ocean near the river mouth. In some years, the majority of the Fraser s...

Re: Lake washington sockeye
At the Cedar River Watershed meeting last month, the state biologists had some pretty hard evidence that the low returns were mainly driven by the low fry survival rate. Now many people point fingers at the cutthroat in the lake as the main cause, but I can tell you for certain they they aren't the...

Re: Lake washington sockeye
Also one thing I must point out is that lake Wenatchee stock actually are naturally occurring and are a substock of the Columbia run. I don't know where I saw that they were Baker stock, but you are at least partly right. See page 475 of this https://wdfw.wa.gov/publications/00194/1992_sassi_apndx_...

Re: Lake washington sockeye
It remains to be seen what the maximum carrying capacity is for Baker Lake, but the current returns already exceed what the natural run was estimated to be. Can we get to returns of 100,000? That would be pretty awesome. Lake Washington (and Samish) should be able to raise 10X more fish because it i...

Re: Skagit opens in 4 days
First Sockeye at the trap recorded today, hopefully this will be a better run than last year. Last year was actually my best so far (of the 3 years I have fished) - I went 3 for 10 trips in 2015, 0 for 5 trips in 2016, and 4 for 10 trips in 2017. These are the hardest fighting and freshest salmon I...

Update - just off the grill, the smell is stronger now and one reluctant nibble later tells me NEVER AGAIN. Trust your nose, people.

Re: Cutthroat Stink
I’ve caught a lot of Lake WA. Cutts. Never noticed any shtank going on. [scared] I think I just have a sensitive nose for it. I can smell the difference between all 5 species of salmon when I am filleting them, and often smell differences between different rivers. :fish: The cutthroat fillets smell...

Re: Cutthroat Stink
I hooked one just like it a week ago as well, but I handed off my rod (and the fish) to a newbie. I am noticing less perch around this year - maybe the cutts are taking their toll?branweeds wrote:I’m just impressed you got through all the stockers to find a cutthroat in Padden...

Cutthroat Stink
I caught a fat 14inch Cutthroat out of Lake Padden today, and I think it is the first Cutthroat I have caught that was clearly a fish-eater. It's belly was full of perch, and it looked similar to the Lake WA Cutthoat pics in all the reports. I've kept Cutts before, but when I cut this one open, it h...

Juliet,
What you are proposing is illegal under Washington law - both for the buyer and the seller. You cannot buy or sell sport-caught fish of any kind in Washington State. I suggest you visit a fish farm or grocery store. You may want to delete your post.
