Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers
Depends on the type of fishing you plan on doing. If you're looking for a versatile setup, I would suggest a med/light-med weight rod, with fast action. 9-10' paired with a 3000 spinning reel. You can drift fish/float or jig with that rod. Should cover what you need. I personally would buy a better ...

Re: Duwamish river daily limit confusion
Only in the salt and the Puyallup. The sky and green are still running 3 and 6 respectively even though the returning numbers are way down. Kind of odd the dept didn't cut retention numbers across the board. To put the returning forecast in perspective, during the last few seasons the green, sky, a...

They did make an adjustment, the "bonus bag" of 2 additional pinks was removed.spokey9 wrote:I didn't see any adjustments to the daily limit for pinks this season.

Re: Duwamish river daily limit confusion
They specifically state limitations for coho, chum, and Chinook retention on the duwamish. Since it doesn't state a general adult limit, then you can keep 6 pinks if you're lucky enough to find that many worth keeping but you can only keep up to 3 coho adults/chum. Chum don't have a jack reg. On th...

Re: Squidding 2015
I hit Area 11 near Dash Point... my dad and I limited out... we were on a boat though. Saw plenty of people catching from the dock it was packed. They are in thick. We caught one limit in about 30mins. Every drop to the bottom was squid on sometimes triples, and this was around 9am. They are big, pl...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
With respect Spokey, no loophole. I'm interested in the CORRECT interpretation. I personally won't be fishing the Green, just don't think it's right to call someone out that is, and doing it legally. If we know better, then our duty is to educate those that don't. Part of education, is correctly int...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
The purpose of these discussions is to help the people out that are looking for information and enjoy fishing. OP and I have both asked for clarification, if I'm wrong, I'll be happy to state that. You've insisted on this rule that frankly I can't find, and you disregard and disrespect the opinion o...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
Page 16 states all areas are closed to the HARVEST of fish. Non retention, does not equal harvest. Harvest includes retaining fish. I'm all for your personal ethics, just don't push them onto other law abiding citizens. Unless I'm shown a rule against targeting. I don't see how that interpretation i...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
Look dude, you no longer have my respect to hold an adult conversation. This was a clarification of rules, not a position regarding my personal fishing philosophy. It's not like the WDFW doesn't have biologists that understand what you're saying. Facts are, they can close rivers. They understand sal...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
"BS'ing and rhetoric"? Interesting choice of words given we are debating interpretation. If you're fishing the Green for salmon, you're well within your legal rights, provided you "release" chinook and coho, that is the language per the release. If they wanted to close rivers, they could, as they de...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
I understand what you're saying but non-retention and closed are two different terms. How are you supposed to fish for hatchery kings, without "targeting" native? Same with steelhead. Non retention is non retention. It would be extremely difficult to prove intent, when fishing with corky and yarn, a...

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
Sorry guys but BentRod is correct, coho, like native/hatchery chinook, cannot be retained. The river is not closed to salmon fishing. From the WDFW RSS feed: "From the mouth of the Green River upstream to the mouth of Cristy Creek (at Flaming Geyser State Park), the daily limit is 3 adult salmon, re...

sand shrimp is great bait, but tough to keep on your hook... you'll go through a lot of them. the GULP sandworm is the way to go.

Re: American Lake Kokanee
I assumed that predation might be an issue here... but that's alot of fish loss, if they are stocking that many fry to account for predation. I would assume that american suffers from likely the same challenges that face other lakes, ie Stevens. Still I would think that with that number of fry plant...
