RE:Ice Reports...
I was out on Newman for a couple hours Friday afternoon. I hiked around alot and drilled alot of holes without getting a bite! Most of my drilling was done in Honeymoon Bay and near the outlet by the marina (and a few in between). Next time I might just hike to the North end since the ice is flat, t...

According to the 2008 Fishing Prospects published by WDFW, Sprague will be replanted with Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, and Catfish this year. Although, they are also quoted as saying "it will take a few years for the fisheries for these species to develop". Until then, they are planting 155,6...

RE:crappie jig tying
I'm suddenly tempted to go out a buy some supplies and started tying jigs to beat the winter blahs! Thanks for the tip!

RE:crappie jig tying
My best producer has always been a purple and white tube jig. I want to try tying some jigs with purple chenille body and white mirabeau tails to replicate them and hopefully be a little more durable. But, since I've never tied a fly in my life the process seems a little intimidating. I've tried sho...

RE:scootney?
Be careful in Scootney, there is a lot of gravel bars and a funny network of channels throughout the lake. I've only fished the lake once and almost lost my prop a couple of times! I didn't have much luck but the campground was nice. The only tip I got from a local fisherman was to drift worms on th...

RE:E. Washington ice fishing
In the Ice Fishing>Ice Reports... thread, someone reported 8.5 inches of good ice at Eloika a couple of days ago! Heck, I checked Newman a few days ago and it had 4" of solid, clear ice. A coworker had a hockey rink set up on Silver although he didn't tell me how thick the ice was! Bottom line.....t...

RE:Any lakes frozen in Eastern, WA
I went to check Newman yesterday and it had 4" of clear ice near shore and a complete ice lid over the lake. I think its safe to assume Eloika has safe ice since its been way colder up at Deer Park and the lake is a lot shallower than Newman!

RE:Ice Reports...
I just checked Newman at the launch. The ice was 4" thick and clear as glass near shore (I drilled a hole and used a tape measure#-o ). I didn't check further out as I was short on time and my old ice auger sucks! It appeared that the lake was completely iced over. I'd say by the weekend the ice wil...

RE:Ice Reports...
Eloika is a good winter option just north of Spokane. Theres always perch and the occasional big bass caught through the ice. And after a couple years of size and catch limits on the crappie, they might finally make a winter appearance! I had good luck this summer for Crappie at Newman but the areas...

RE:walleyes?
Heat, You're getting your blood pressure up! I do agree with you that it is odd how much money the state puts into planting one non-native species (Rainbow Trout) and eradicating any other species that competes with their darling Rainbows. Sprague lake is a classic example where they blamed Walleye ...

RE:Rufus Woods being overfished?
You can bet the fishing will slow down over the next year or two for a couple of reasons. The first, you have already mentioned. People have a total disregard for the rules and with the budget cuts for enforcement they have little chance of getting caught. So, they take more than their share and don...

Drano Salmon in late August
I'm going to try to post a picture from a Chinook trip in late August. We were fishing outside of Drano Lake and had some phenomenal fishing. In three days of fishing we were only two fish short of limiting for the trip. On the last day we had the boat limited by 7:45 AM! The picture is of my wife's...

RE:Mid-Columbia Walleye in Fall
I hate to say it, but the only fishing time I've spent on the lower Columbia is for fall Chinook out of Drano. We had a heck of a trip this August. We had limits for the boat 2 out of 3 days with the final day limit in the boat at 7:45 AM (4 people + 8 salmon). I've only read about the good Walleye ...

RE:A good year for Crappie
Well...you caught me, wm...I was cheating on Mrs. Walleye with Ms. Crappie. I blame the gas prices....they drove me into the arms of a closer fish!:-" On a more serious note, I am hoping to go this year to the February Freeze Out (aka FFO) at the Roof (Rufus Woods has more than just triploids on the...

A good year for Crappie
I had a great year of Crappie fishing and it was almost in my backyard. Every time I went out, I managed to find them and catch a few near 12". A tube jig baited with a piece of Gulp did the trick it was the depth and location that seemed to change every time! Oh yeah, in case you were wondering I w...
