Re: Hull design
A good used whaler is really expensive. Whalers are also not very deep. For what you would pay for a whaler you could find a 14 to 16 foot welded aluminium open boat with a newer 4 stroke between 15 and 25 hp. An aluminium like i am talking about would be a lot deeper and more sea worthy. If you fou...

Re: How do you charge your trolling motors?
What about using a solar charger? They come in different sizes and are not that big. Using solar charger to keep a constant trickle charge on the batteries might lengthen your time using the battery.

Re: 4-stroke on a 13 1/2 Gregor
From my experience with my duroboat i found that the boat did not ride much different no matter what engine i had on it. The first motor i had for the boat was a 1996 johnson 8hp 2stroke. It only pushed the boat about 20 mph. The 8 trolled the boat down really slow, like below 1.00 mph. My 15 i coul...

Re: 4-stroke on a 13 1/2 Gregor
You can go to the max HP with out a problem. Your boat weighs about 190 to 200 lbs which is about the same as the duroboat i had. I ran a 2010 15 hp yamaha on my duroboat and with stock prop it did just a little more than 27 mph on the gps. That is with just me, 3 gallons of fuel, and a water proof b...

Re: Small kicker motors
I was talking about older used 2 strokes. Those are what Eric was talking about as well. I am fully aware that there is not any new 2 strokes being made.

Re: Small kicker motors
Older Yamaha kickers down to 6 hp were twin cylinders and would get you the troll speed you want with our the vibration. All the new Yamahas and mere are all 1 cylinder motors and vi rate like hell! Lol. Of all the motors I've serviced and repaired the mer and Yamaha kicker seem the best overall, b...

Re: Small kicker motors
On a 14' it would be easy to power down enough, but for overall control I like electrics. With a rheostat (so-called infinite) speed control you can be very precise. Either way you should get good results. Waste of money as they dont work in the salt water unless you by one that is salt water compa...

Re: Small kicker motors
My question was about 4 to 6 hp 4 stroke outboards, not ways to slow the boat down. I have limited experience with the size of outboards i stated, and was looking for input from others who have experience with those motors. Pulling buckets, anchors, and trolling plates is not what i was asking about....

Small kicker motors
Just inherited a 14ft fiberglass boat with a early 90`s 2 cycle 4 cylinder 40hp merc. The boat trolls down well for what it is as it will troll down to about 2.00 mph. While that will be fine for the salt water, i love kokanee fishing and need to troll a lot slower. Been looking at 4 stroke kicker m...

Re: Step through windshield seal
This may sound stupid, but what about a windshield wiper blade? You would have to find some kind of adhesive to secure it to the frame. If you could find a wiper with the base wide enough to fit in the groove, it might work.

Re: Using Downriggers, Vibration Noise
Any cannon people out there who have switched to braid? If so i am wondering if the Terminator,Termination system cannon uses works with braid like it does with wire. I bought a cannon HP on eBay many years ago and have never replaced the wire on it. This year it is time to replace and i am trying t...
