Re: Ice Fishing Buddies List

They're in there, but all I've caught through the ice at Eloika is perch.

Re: Hog Canyon / Fourth of July - How's the fishing???

I kind of hate to say it, but Hog Canyon is basically a hole full of farmed trout. Two years ago, when I first got into ice fishing, it was a good lake to go catch on, and everyone was basically taking home limits of trout. Unfortunately, and this is basically why any trout fishery in the state is i...

Re: Ice Reports 2012-2013

Long range forecast is looking really good for continued freeze up.

I also saw Silver lake on Friday evening. It is freezing up well, but I don't know how far out the ice is safe. Looking good though.

Re: Ice Reports 2012-2013

Just thought I would let everyone know that Silver Lake (Spokane County) didn't have any ice as of last Sunday. With the warmer temps expected this week, I doubt it is coming soon. Dang, Doug. I was really hoping that with this cold snap that is expected to last through the weekend, that we might s...

Idahoguy... I truly am sorry to hear that. I haven't had that kind of experience yet where I've seen a terrible accident unfold. Really sad.

Re: Ice Reports 2012-2013

I haven't ventured to Eloika yet. I would be interested to know how the ice is, but I'm a bit discouraged that it will be thick enough by Christmas. I would imagine someone will get out there by next week, but... well, it won't be me. Maybe the week after next since I see a nice cool down coming.

Re: Ice Reports 2012-2013

Went for a drive yesterday and took a look at Silver lake. No ice yet even in the shallows. Plenty of wind though. I expect to see the shallows freeze up this weekend.

Dang. That's surprising.

I'll be ready to head out to Eloika, but I would prefer the ice to be a few inches thick.

Re: Ice Reports 2012-2013

I've been watching the forecasts and tracking the days until the ice is ready. Haven't been out to any of my ice fishing spots. My guess? After Christmas. Haven't had any serious cold snaps and don't foresee any in the near future.

TackleWarehouse has it for ~$5.

Re: Deaths deverted

Well, I have never been out in a boat on Rock, but everything I've heard is that the main channel is fine. The rock pillars extend more than a hundred feet from shore though, and a really close friend of mine told me that he bumped bottom on one of these spirels when he was far from the bank. Luckil...

Re: Deaths deverted

I'm forever wanting to get out on this lake for some hawgs, but I hear these stories all the time from everyone who has ever boated here. No one is immune to hitting those rocks, and I have ruled out putting my bass boat in there.

I still would really like to fish it.

Y'all, Fish-N-Fool does really good bass fishing seminars. I got a lot of good information last year. The knot-tying demonstration was especially helpful for me this past year. I wish I had taken some notes.

Re: Ice Reports 2011-2012

Kfedka, I was out there this past weekend. I didn't test the ice, but I saw at least 4 camps of fisherpeople fishing the middle of the lake between public ramp and Picnic Pines. I did a quick hand dip into the water at the dock to see how thick the ice is, and it's 3-4" thick around the dock. I saw ...

Re: here's my take on this warm weather !!!!!

This little warm spell looks to be short. Is it impacting the ice that much?

Towards the end of the first week of January, we might finally see some serious cold that will help freeze up some of the deeper lakes.

Re: Ice Fishing Buddies List

I guess I'll toss my name in the hat. Last year was my first year on the ice. I'm a newb when it comes to ice fishing, but I'm hardy and have an ice auger. I come with a sense of humor and a relaxed demeanor. Lakes: Silver lake, Hog Canyon, 4th of July, Eloika lake Species: Panfish, trout, and bass ...

Re: Ice Reports 2011-2012

@romanfishing - Fishtrap's been closed since 9/30. @kfedka & fishtank - thanks for reporting on Silver. @fishtank - Silver's usually one of the last to freeze, though it keeps the ice on for a pretty long time. I've never wandered too far south on Silver when it's frozen (not trusting the ice), but...

Re: Ice Reports 2011-2012

Kefdka, yeah, that's what I saw a week and a half ago. The shallow bays have begun freezing over, and the ice is thick enough to stand on. I imagine the rest of the lake will begin to ice up in the next couple of weeks... however, I have never ice fished Silver lake and don't know when it usually fr...
