Hit the water at 7am with my friend Chris. First thing I noticed right away was this is one weedy lake (which would later come to cost me). We quickly settled in on surface lures as the most effective way to target the fish. Chris caught a couple smaller bass on a popper and then a "chug" bait that was half the size of the fish. I had a couple surface strikes but no hook ups. We moved across to the far side of the lake but the wind picked up a bit and it was getting hard to maintain position. I fired up my motor and we struggled to get to a wind protected area. I say struggled because my jet kept sucking up weeds. Well, you can probably guess what ended up happening. As we returned to the dock smoke and a strong smell came up from my motor. The darn water pump had failed and unfortunately the heat alarm didn't go off either. So the day ended early and my boat is at the shop facing a several hundred dollar bill. Ouch. But hey, it was nice to get out to see a new lake and I will definately come back. It is one bassy looking body of water.
