Out after the triploid trout Sunday evening at Clear Lake in Skagit county. Got to the lake at 6:00 in the evening. Quite a few people fishing as evidenced by nearly full parking along the road to the boat launch. Set out in my float tube dragging the ever popular olive green wooley bugger. Not more than fifty feet away from shore I have my first hit, missed the fish but judging by the large swirl were my fly was it must have been one of those triploids. Cast back out and continued pushing the tube to get out of the shallows and away from the new pad growth. I got another hit, not a very hard hit just a tap, so I twitch the fly a little to see if he'll come back. He did, and hit it hard, I hit him hard too and could feel the fish taking off and off he did go, didn't get him hooked good enough. Out past the lily pad bed I get another hit, this one I got solid, well just enough for the fish to put a bend on my rod down to the lake surface. Missed another. This set the pattern for the rest of the evening while I was out. Lost four more fish. On the way back to the launch I got a five inch perch which I did bring to hand and released so I didn't get totally skunked. I'll try it again later this week maybe tie up some smaller buggers with a shorter tail, which may have been the problem with missed fish.
