RAIN. It POURED at Fishtrap Lake this morning! We launched at 6:15 am and had our lines in the water shortly thereafter. It rained as we began haulin' 'em in, despite the 70-degree water. Just last week, the water temperature was 55 degrees. The hot weather and the shallowness of Fishtrap Lake makes for warm water for them fishies. The rain was not cold, and I did learn something about wearing denim during a deluge (DON'T.) I had on a pair of safari shorts that absorbed slightly LESS water than the jeans did. This outing our catch proved to be ALL rainbow trout--- last week, in the same locations, we caught mainly silvers. Of course, last week it wasn't RAINING, either. And: that was then; this is now. We used two different colors of wedding rings (you have to figure out the colors.) During fishing, the rain came down harder AND HARDER, but when you are catching fish (as we were) the rain just doesn't matter. We had similar circumstances at Badger Lake late last year with downpours, and it was fun then---and it sure was fun today. Both the BB of BL were soaked, but smiling. After a short morning of fishing, hunkered-down in a small fishing boat, we limited-out. Afterwards, it was onwards to the espresso shop for hot mochas (another tradition not to be missed, especially after rainy escapades outside) and wringing out our wet socks. Note to all your politeness people: 1. DO NOT WRING OUT YOUR SOCKS---no matter how wet---ON THE COUNTER OF YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT (someone else's experience talking...) and 2. DO NOT DUNK YOUR DOUGHNUT INTO YOUR MOCHA PAST YOUR ELBOW (both are regarded as Bad Form, methinks). Thanks for all the great fishing, WDFW.
