We fished Leland on May 10th with mixed success. Really had to work hard to find the fish but we took home a respectable basket of about 25 crappie with a few decent perch in the mix. These crappie were larger than the ones we caught last year, hope that trend holds true later on in the summer. They may have stocked the lake with trout recently, as we caught and released several on our jigs and other folks were catching quite a few from shore around the boat launch.
We returned and spent the weekend at the campground but had no real luck finding the crappie again, although we did put about 30 perch in the basket and released at least that many to grow bigger. This is the earliest in the year that I have ever fished this lake, and I was a bit surprised that we caught as many fish as we did. I am definitely looking forward to getting back out here in a couple of months when the fish are a little more active.
