The Sockeye season is open for the first time in eight years with a one fish per day, very brief season. Initially it was announced that the season would last only from one hour before sunrise on Saturday, July 13th to one hour after official sunset on Monday July 15th. This season may be extended as there were not nearly the numbers of fisherman out that they had predicted.

I went out at 10:30am (late start) and began trolling a bare 3/0 black Gamagatsu hook 18" back from a #0 dodger. Started at 60 feet on the downrigger and had my fish in the boat after 15 minutes, a 6 lb bright hen. Saw one other fish caught by another boat using the same methods. The checker back at the dock reported good luck by other anglers. I fished the south end of the lake off Atlantic Park. There was not the heavy pressure I expected, I think because of the one fish limit.

I returned to the lake to take my son out from 7-8 pm. He caught a 3 lb sockeye at 8 pm using a black 3/0 hook and dodger at 60 feet on the downrigger.
