SOCKEYE FISHING STILL GOING STRONG
Dave Weitl and I went out this morning to do some sockeye fishing and based on the number of fish we saw caught I can confirm that this fishery is still going strong. Not only that, there is less pressure now as the novelty is wearing off and we have a Chinook fishery going for the next two weekends on Elliot Bay.
Regarding our luck this morning, all I can say is sometimes fishing gives you a lesson in humility so you don't think you know all there is to know about our finned friends. We fished from 5:30 to 11:30 and had one fish on, and lost that one! All around us we saw anglers catching fish. We asked "how deep?" 60-70 feet. We used the same rigs and techniques that I had such incredible success with four days early. We changed techniques. We tried numerous variations on sockeye rigs. All without positive results. Although discouraged by today, I fully intend on going out another day after these fish.
Like a bell curve, the last two trips have been the extreme of good and bad fishing. And if my last trip was "fishing heaven", then "fishing hell" must be to catch nothing while those around you are pulling them in!
