Dave Weitl, my sons and I went fishing for sockeye this morning. We started at 5:30am and fished until we limited which occurred at 8:30 am. The standard setups produced well: a black hook with a dodger ( 2 and 0 ) running at 65-75 feet. We saw a lot of fish rolling on top but the fish that were biting were deep.

The sockeye are beginning to take on some color but are still feisty and the flesh is a nice red shade. This fishery may be ended soon and there might be some Indian netting in the lake. Watch the papers and this site for any updates, we will post them as soon as we know for sure. An interesting note, my brother works in Renton and looks out on the Cedar River. He reports seeing no fish yet in the river. Does this mean the majority of the 450,000 sockeye are hanging out in Lake Washington? Judging by the numbers of fish that the lake is putting out there are a lot of fish still there.

This has been just an excellent fishery. Its a shame it took eight years to have another season. I for one hope it won't be eight years for the next.
