A few days ago I noticed some bait fisherman hooking 6-8 inch rainbows on a dock on the south side of the lake. This got my juices flowing so I decided to check it out for myself. Normally I prefer catch and release fly fishing, but occasionally I am not opposed to bait fishing a put and take lake for some skillet sized trout. I showed up around 3 PM and lobbed some orange power bait on a 2lb test leader with a small swivel and a small
sliding egg sinker. This was not what I consider high intensity fishing so I relaxed with a good book. Everytime I would get into the book the little rascals would try to drag my ultralight into the lake. Finally after many attempts I landed an 8 inch lunker. In the next couple of hours I caught three more all in the 6 to 8 inch range. I learned that these little guys are very light biters and it took some good hook setting to nail them. This fishing was not comparable to my girlfriend, (who by the way, flyfishes twice a year) hooking an 8lb rainbow at Rocky Ford, but for a lake in the
heart of Seattle it was a great way to spend the day in the outdoors.
