The weather was still hot, so we decided to fish Rocky Ford in the morning and hit Dry Falls again in the evening. Rocky Ford was pretty good – we each caught a few nice trout, then went back to the trailer for a nap during the heat of the day. We started Dry Falls just like we left it the night before, fishing was still hot, although not quite as hot as the night before. The dark damsel was still working. We were still fishing within a few hundred feet of the launch. Mike caught his big fish this night – a
big, hefty brown that was about 18 inches and very heavy. This fish fought like a king salmon – diving deep and making long hard runs. It took a good 10 plus minutes to bring this guy in. (Since all our fish are released, landing them quickly as possible is very important.) This one was revived and sent on it's way. There were a ton of adult mayflies after the sun set.
The fished never keyed into them – even though there were quite a few spent spinners. You would see the occasional splash, but not enough for me to take off my nymph (even though dry's are my favorite) We fished until dark and decided to try the morning on the next day.
